Definitely DMI. Research ScotRail
Wow, thank you - could have very much been on the wrong track there. Will be doubling efforts on researching Scotrail over the next several days.

Random question - does anyone have a contact number for the Yoker depot, I was going to try my hardest to get in to speak to someone in the depot and I didn't want to just show up especially when I presume they will be flat out with interviews this week.

Thank you in advance.

Just had an email to say I passed DMI. Interview was last Tuesday. Glasgow based. Now just need to wait for date for next assessment.

Does anyone have a rough idea of how long it takes to hear back for an assessment 2 date after passing DMI or is it different for everyone?

Morning all, first time poster long time reader. This Forum has honestly been incredibly helpful. March applicant, Glasgow based and scheduled for my MMI mid-week at Yoker.

Well I believe it is the MMI, doesn't actually state in the email however 'competency and situation-based questions' was the give away.

Really looking forward to it.
Yes buddy that's definitely your DMI. Not only will you be expected to know about ScotRail, but also Yoker specifically. Make sure you're familiar with traction & routes.

That was quick. I'm 4+ weeks from DMI now and still waiting on an email. Good Luck with the tests.

After almost 6 weeks of waiting for my DMI result, I was invited for Assessment 2, so I guess I passed! Assessment 2 result was 1 day later, and medical the following day. There's really no way to gauge the recruitment timescales. Just hang in there!

How long did you wait for the the invite to assessment 2? Well done on passing them all, is that you got a start date now?

How did you find the second assessments?

It was 6 weeks between DMI & Assessment 2, I was just never notified that I'd passed! No start date yet, another test of patience!

How did you find the second assessments?
I found a lot of useful things on YouTube - a full squares test and a Vienna traffic tutorial. I found I missed road signs the most, so concentrated on looking for them first, everything else I just naturally noticed.

I got my kids a cheap wire buzzer game from Argos, practiced that left handed and I'm sure that helped too!

Just remember it's not about being perfect, speed and accuracy are obviously important, but you're also scored on how quickly you recover from going wrong, so just compose yourself and carry on. I actually thought I'd rushed through it and was mentally beating myself up during the wait for results, thankfully we all (4) passed and went on to MMI.

Just beginning what looks to be a long journey to applying for a trainee driver place.. (1) would it be beneficial to complete opc assessments on my own before applying? (2) are they due to start recruiting soon if so is it a case of put your application in and hope to get called in? Thanks for any info!

After 6 weeks had passed (since the DMI in August that didn't go well) I decided to Email Matheus at Scotrail to see if there was any decision. He confirmed that I didn't make it on this occasion, but am able to have another go 6 months from date of DMI, which I am already working on.

Does anyone know if a second go starts right at the very beginning again, or instead at the stage I had got to at the first attempt?

Sorry to hear that, what did you feel didn't go well if you don't mind me asking.

And no your stage 1 tests are kept on file I'm sure so if apply again you will go to dmi again

As far as I’m aware the first assessment results are valid for 3 or 5 years. In same boat as yourself but I passed DMI and failed 1 of the 3 computer assessments. My 6 months were up in May, I’ve had some emails from recruitment about resitting final assessments but it’s a waiting game just now as they’re snowed under with applications etc

Being brutally honest I was completely unprepared for the DMI - I had mostly thought about issues that are probably more attuned to the MMI, but also had only a week between the invitation and the interview with shifts already booked right up until the night before, so no time to be able to even try to speak to someone at the local depot, or ask questions here to pad out any other information I could absorb about Scotrail. I realised this within a minute of starting the interview and was unable to wing it on any front. Gutted but I now have slightly over 4 months to work on making a better case for my candidacy next time.

The flashing squares. Was doing it correctly then half way through I started changing what I was doing. 11 months on and it’s still a sore one as I still don’t understand why I changed what I was doing. Hopefully get the chance to do it again in the near future

Hey guys

Been a long time reader on here but just decided to sign up.

I have been looking to move into the rail industry for several years, first applied around 6-7 years ago with no success. Long and short
I had to put alot on hold due to major life events, but also making progress with my current career.
Decided last year that, although my current career is gaining speed, im not sure its where I truly want to be, so applied for the 'Trainee drivers' post in March this year.
I was sent the first assessment from the OPC which thankfully I passed, then the SJT in late March which I also passed.
This was confirmed when i recieved an email on 27/05/24 from Scotrail resourcing dept, stating i had met the standard and that they would be in touch to advise on the next stage.
This email had me elated, and have been checking my email (including the junk and clutter folders) several times daily.... still no response.

The recruitment team must be so busy, I can only imagine the volume of applicants for these oppertunities.

Anyhow, decided to reach out to them on 09/09/24 to politely ask for an update but they have not yet responded, they must be so busy.

Looks like a good amount of applications are progressing which is good to see, I wish you all the best of luck.

Keep the faith!

From what we were told well over 7500 applications were received that they have had to try to filter for 160 new trainees per session, hence the delays between steps. Would imagine they are horribly busy.

I agree they must be so busy working through all the applicants.

Dundee, Perth or Aberdeen.

What about yourself?
Sorry for the late reply. It’s Perth or Dundee. You heard anything yet?

I received an e mail on the 12th of September to say I had passed the 1st assessment date. It’s probably a Perth post, anyone from the same area had an invitation to DMI yet?

I have just been for my medical after passing everything else. I was meant to be for Dundee but have heard Dundee and Aberdeen are full just now. Perth apparently needing drivers though.

Congratulations, fingers crossed it stays like that. Am I correct that they asked for everyone to be within 45 minutes of a depot?.
