Seat reservations on Avanti

Hi, I'm making a journey to Liverpool from London using one of my free travel boxes. But it appears the only way of booking a seat on the Avanti website is if you're buying a ticket at the same time. So I went on to the FGW website and booked a seat for both directions but there seems no way of actually choosing what seat you want.
Does anyone know if there's a way of choosing a seat on an Avanti train if you're not actually buying a ticket at the same time,

If you are safeguarded staff you can book seats on the RSTL ticketing site.

Thanks for the reply but I'm retired TFL and we don't have access to that site.

Apologies, you can’t select a seat via GWR.
