There's a publication called "The London Underground: A Diagrammatic History". It's basically a Tube map that lists by each station its opening and (if applicable) closing dates, dates of relocation and any name changes. It makes fascinating viewing, and could be helpful in locating "lost" stations.

I have got one of those somewhere. I bought it back in the 1980's I think, so it's hardly up to date now!

I've got that in my 'maps' drawer - very interesting. :)

Mine's from the '80s too. It says it's the fourth edition. I'm pretty sure I bought it at the London Transport Museum. I first came across it being displayed at the East Anglian Railway Museum (I think it was there anyway).

If Liz ever did use the tube, who would pay
for her ticket as she never carries any dosh apparently?
Great for a fixed penalty ticket...

She always travels with a retinue of flunkeys - perhaps a "Royal Oyster Card Page" would suffice to do the necessary:p

Imagine a tube train in that distinctive deep plum livery applied to a certain rake of Mlk 2 and 3 stock...

Where's those image manipulating people?;)

I'm sure I've seen a picture of Her Majesty doing a short hop on the Victoria Line soon after it opened. I'm afraid I don't remember where though.

Yes, she opened the line travelling from Victoria to Green Park.

Travelling one direction in the cab and the return in the passenger saloon.

I remember that unit; pity they didn't paint the whole fleet like that... Never liked the "tin can" look and the current blue and white isn't much better...

A couple of weeks ago I was on a delayed metropolitan line service where the driver relieved the boredom of crawling into Baker Street by announcing the disused stations we were going through and giving us the history of them. Made people smile :)
