Anyone know of a decent pub on the line?
Thanks
Thanks
Yes, just down the hill, been there a couple of times. Superb. There's a great one just down from Ribblehead station. Lovely and cosy in winter and a decent selection of ales.
Presumably, that's the "Station Inn". Only a couple of hundred yards down from Ribblehead station itself, if that. Some mixed reviews, although, and to be fair, most are quite positive. There's a great one just down from Ribblehead station. Lovely and cosy in winter and a decent selection of ales.
Any recommendations for Appleby?
Good shout. Last time I was there, which was during the week, whilst the pub doors were open, they weren't open for trade / serving anyone. Would have liked to have stayed for refreshments, so maybe a return visit in 2024?The Sportsman's Inn at Cowgill is a good pub, but only opens some days in low season (Friday to Sunday I think). Last time I was there the beer was great.
It's about a mile and a bit from Dent station, although the walk back is a sharp climb at the end. You other option is that the walk from Dent to Ribblehead (7 miles or so) can be routed past the pub
The Midland, right outside the station....two changing real ales plus B&B accommodation. However, be aware that they are closed Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.Any recommendations for Appleby, although maybe not when the annual Horse Fair is on?!

Unfortunately, the Moorcock at Garsdale has now closed.
The Crown at Horton-in-Ribblesdale is five minutes walk from the station and the Golden Lion nearer ten.
The Helwith Bridge Inn is situated in a superb position right alongside the line about two miles South of Horton and one mile South of Arcow Quarry, with Pen-y-Ghent looming in the background. There's a very infrequent bus service - about two a week last time I looked - but you're looking at getting your walking boots on.
....and the Midland at Lazonby, next to the station. There is the Shepherd's Inn in Langwathby - I've not been in it for many years though.

This is another option for a walk from Dent going via the Sportsman's. Right and up the hill from the station, across the hillside, down under Arten Gill viaduct to the road, back by the river and pub, and up to the station. Just on 5 miles, and the pub is three-quarters of the way if you go clockwiseThe Sportsman's Inn at Cowgill is a good pub, but only opens some days in low season (Friday to Sunday I think).
