Liverpool fought a "war" with Bristol to be the first to send a fully commercial ferry across to New York in the 1800s.

Fowey also follows the pattern of consonant - vowel - consonant - vowel - consonant (and, like Bacup, all the consonants have the same face value in Scrabble, albeit a different face value to those found in Bacup).

Visitors to the thread may notice that this post has spawned a Cornish vacation...!

A little further along the coast, Mousehole also has a history of shipwrecks.

Bodmin has shared administrative duties with Truro over the years.

I have edited Post #4297, Fowey (the first Cornish settlement in this run), to indicate we are apparently on vacation.

St Ives is at the eastern of the B3306 road which runs through Zennor and terminates to the west near Land's End airport.

So it was. Whoops. Didn't see that - my bad :oops::oops:

Richard Chartres became Bishop of London in 1995.
Prior to that he was Bishop of Stepney.

Acton, if I am correct means Farm by oak trees

Middleton is the fictitional town in the ITV series "Pie in the Sky" starring the late and much lamented Richard Griffiths.
The exterior scenes of his restaurant were actually filmed in Hemel Hempstead.
