Vicarage Lane Cemetery in Ruddington contains the graves of three of the defenders of Rorke's Drift in January 1879, as does St Woolos Cemetery, Newport, South Wales.

In 1945, the station at Carnforth was used as a set for the film Brief Encounter starring Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard. Sir David Lean CBE was born on 25th March 1908 in South Croydon, then part of Surrey, but now in Greater London.

The churchyard at Loversall contains an ancient Grade II listed tomb chest. Such chests are more common inside churches and there is a magnificent one commemorating Gruffydd ap Rhys in Worcester cathedral.

Coalbrookdale is best known as the base at which Abraham Darby developed the coke-fired blast furnace in the early 18th Century. However nearly two hundred years earlier Cistercian monks from Rievaulx Abbey had made substantial advances in blast furnace technology at their daughter site of Laskill, North Yorkshire. These advances were unfortunately lost at the dissolution of the monasteries by Henry VIII.

I assume that you mean Scorton, North Yorkshire?

If you do, the village is home to the Ancient Scorton Silver Arrow contest, which is an archery competition which was founded in the village in 1673 and returns to Scorton only when a resident wins as last happened in 2008. It claims to be the oldest sporting event still running, although several other sporting events claim to have been running for longer. One of these is the Kiplingcotes Derby Horserace.

The town square at Helmsley is a meeting place for motorcyclists as it is at the end of the B1257 road from Stokesley, which is a favourite with bikers.

The village of Kilburn is known for the White Horse, which is a figure cut into the hillside to the north of the village, and visible for many miles around on a clear day. Uffington in Oxfordshire also has a White Horse, but this is much older than the one at Kilburn.

Abingdon's brewery, Morland (whose most famous ale, Old Speckled Hen, was named after an early MG car) was taken over and closed down by Greene King Brewery in 1999, with production moving to Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk.
