Sorry, due to the EMT website showing only their emergency weather notices I can't double check if this is right.

There is no first class lounge (yet) at Sheffield.

I hold an advance first ticket from Sheffield to London. I can use the lounge at St Pancras on arrival.

Is this right?

Think there is an upgrade to pay on Advance tickets....

Lots of TOCs do it, its a good idea really, because when everyone comes to visit the website when it snows, 90% will be heading to the same place; to see disruption. But otherwise it would just be really slow :)

There is no first class lounge at Sheffield, however the trains are usually in the station for about 30 minutes, so you can always use your seat :)

I thought so too but can't get a definitive answer without the EMT website :(

Found it
All First Class ticket holders, including First Advance, can exclusively use our First Class Lounges. An exception is London St Pancras International where during the hours of 1600-1900 there will be a charge of £5.

East Midlands Trains Standard Class ticket can buy access tickets allowing use of the Lounges on a daily, weekly, monthly or annual basis

Shutting down the website defeats the object of having it in the first place !
The website would be the first place to look in times of disruption, so that passengers can adjust their travel plans accordingly.

When designing and building the website architecture, the system should be able to cope with a load way over the "normal" level of use.

Another example of the contempt that the TOC's exhibit towards their passengers.

They've not shut it down they've just set it to only display updates on service levels to ensure that those that need the information can find the information without risk of the website buckling under the pressure of hundreds/thousands browsing around it looking for said info.

Seems like a sensible idea to me.

Another point to note regarding EMT First Lounges such as at Derby is that you can use them if you have a Cross Country First Class ticket. Presumably, EMT came to a mutual agreement with XC over this, which is good as XC services outweigh those of EMT at Derby. Shame that they can't agree similarly with Virgin (the grumpy gatekeeper at the New Street lounge point blank refused me entry after presenting my FOS to Southampton Airport despite telling him I was getting the VT to Coventry which apparently I couldn't do). But I guess XC and Virgin are bitter rivals.

When we had a 'Virgin Trains' First Class Lounges' Thread on here, when I first joined, someone said that there was a First Class lounge at Glasgow Central, which Virgin staffed and had overall control of, and closed it down when told they had to house GNER and SR Sleeper First Class passengers.

Good idea, but poorly executed. Fine putting the disruption on the first page, but any webmaster worth their salt would also put a simple link on that page so that those who wanted to go to the normal site for other things could do so.

Is that the same lounge that still had Midland Mainline logos on in Summer 2009?
