Hi everyone!

I've applied for a job as a signaller for Network Rail and I'm really excited about it. My application was successful and I did a online test they sent me a link to but today I got a phonecall to say I have to go and do another test...? Does anyone know what this involves as I thought I'd done the hard part of answering the questions in the first test. Is the next stage actually an interview? Does anyone know how long all this takes because it would be nice to start as a signaller by New Year!

Thanks for your help, Alan.

Hi Craig, if you go to back to the original advert there is a link to the day in the life of a signaller I think it's called and it sets out the recruitment process and gives you some practice assessments

What location have you applied for buddy?

If you thought the questions were hard, your gonna be in for a shocker when you go to the assessment , it's not hard or difficult per say, it just challenges your multi tasking and 'fighting boredom' skills quite well. Can be 'fun' to try and get your head around at first, but take your time and if you don't understand anything just say to the person in charge of the test (definitely the lift counting exercise) as they will keep running through it until you get it. I don't think many people have understood the lift counting pt2 straight away, it can be quite awful to understand if they don't word it well.

But if you don't know what a signaller does, why did you tick the box that says you do and you read the guide? INCASE you didn't know, it's shift work, you work bank holidays and weekends, and over Christmas and new year too. Most people are shocked when I tell them that for some reason!

Hi,

It's for the Tay Bridge South signalbox but I've also applied for Barrow in Furness and Middlesborough. I didn't think the questions were too hard they just needed s lot of thinking about. Hopefully the rest of the tests will be easier. I don't remember hwat boxes I ticked I applied because my mate works on the trains and he's always telling us that the railway is a good place to work and once your in you've got a job for life. I did kind of think that signallers would work shifts but I don't know what shofts they do but I work shifts in the pub just now so it'll be ok

Thanks and if anyone else knows anything please post!

Hi,

I did the tests yesterday and I found them all really hard work. The bit with the lift going up and down was impossible!! I hope I passed but I think I blew it but the lady said if anyone failed they could resit in 6 months. There was no interview yesterday just the tests.

Thanks Alan.
