Hi can anyone tell me why this signal does not turn red after the train passes through? I get a train from Slaithwaite daily and it only changes from green to yellow, never red. It is Huddersfield bound. Would help settle my curiosity

I assume it’s probably a distant signal - is there a triangle on the identification plate?

It is, as suggested above, a 'distant' so only displays green or yellow.

It has an 'R' on the plate

Distant signal. The stop signal it relates to is round the bend near Golcar viaduct.

To clarify, signal 709 will remain red until the train has got past 721, so there will always be a red signal between following trains.

HU709 will remain red until the train has got past HU717. The distant signals HU717R and HU721R aren't shown on the diagrams posted above.

Noted - I was misled by previous posts, and the screengrab being a bit confusing by including stop signals even if no aspect is shown, but not repeaters.

That portion of line (standedge to golcar) is only 2 aspect signalling.
So you’ll get a distant signal (green/yellow) followed by a stop signal (green/red) followed by a distant then a stop. That’s why if a train is following a late runner it can take an age for the following train to make progress.

Worth noting is that SignalMaps generally show repeaters and banner repeaters with aspects. Although navigating to the line you need can be troublesome unless your signalling Geography is good.

Aww I see that makes sense. I've been puzzled by that for months
