Southdown Motor Services Outstations

Rummaging around in a dusty old pile of stuff I found a booklet published by the Southdown Enthusiasts Club dating from March 1980. Whilst it doesn’t list outstations as such, the following locations are listed as depots, complete with rail-style two-letter depot codes:

BN - Edward Street, Freshfield Road, Moulsecoomb

BR - Bognor

CB - Crowborough

CH - Chichester

CS - Conway Street

EB - Eastbourne

HD - Henfield

HH - Haywards Heath

HK - Hassocks

HL - Hailsham

HS - Horsham

LS - Lewes

MH - Midhurst

PM - Winston Churchill Avenue, Emsworth, Hambledon, Hayling Island, Hilsea, Hoeford, Leigh Park, Petersfield

SF - Seaford

SG - Steyning

SN - Storrington

UD - Uckfield

WG - Worthing

WK - Whitehawk

Would the Horsham outstation be the former Arriva yard at Warnham which has since been turned into houses? The Lewes outstation obviously being at the former bus station and the Henfield outstation which is still being used today by Stagecoach for the service 17 Horsham to Brighton.

The Horsham depot was in the town centre on the East side of Denne Road, opposite Normandy. It can be clearly seen on one of the NLS maps of the area (https://maps.nls.uk/view/103192714) at TQ 172 302. The site was redeveloped for housing circa 1990.
