Break the information down into sections and learn it in small manageable chunks. Another good technique to help memorise something is to copy it out. Writing it down will help cement the information.
Thank you…I did this and it helped massively! Had my interview today unsure of how it went as you can never tell..well in my experience anyway!

I agree with the "never tell" part to a degree. At the end of the day aslong as you've shown them that you're a safety conscious person, able to work alone for extended period of time plus other important NTS skills whilst also knowing a bit about the company, its routes and traction, then you'll most likely have it bagged.

Best of luck.

I received an email over a month ago just stating I was successful from the first test online. & That I'm just on the waiting line now to do all the assesments.

Until the line reaches me I'll just have to sit her and be patient

I waited a year for the assessment stage after shortlisting. Couldn't do it due to the dates being the same as another TOCs assessment day but they've kept me incase of depot vacancies at Slade Green since I've passed the main bulk of OPC Assessments.

Would only need to do VSE and DMI come a few months time If by then I'm still on the road to realising a great Job opportunity.

Hi, I have my Assessment on Monday in Tonbridge, just wondering if anyone could me be an idea of the day, booked in for 9:00-15:00 pm ? Will I be there all day ? Is it the tests and Interview or Just the tests, and is it worth going through all this in the end, I work hard and am willing to learn but don't want to waste my time and risk leaving my current job for something that might not turn out well, is it really hard ? any advice would be great, thank you.

Hi, good luck with your assessment on Monday!! I was wondering, when did you apply for trainee train driver Vic/Orp? Just curious as to how long did it take until you got any emails back. I have applied last week and other than acknowledgment email of my application for the position I haven't received anything. The status of my application is 'In Process'. Any information is most welcomed, thanks!

Thanks, have you gone through the process ?
Yes, been a driver for a couple years now

This is the fun of it. Not sure if being internal helped but I pretty much went straight for assessments and MMI 2 weeks after applying. Some people wait over a year

Hiya, I applied for the Trainee Train Driver advert on the 24th Jan, sat my assessment centre including MMI on the 10th Feb found out that day I had passed everything and then I received a call approx 3 days later stating I had a DMI in Tonbridge on the 04th March. I then sat this yesterday and found out this afternoon that I had passed this and now I have my medical set for 28th March with a start date for my apprenticeship of 13th May. Hope that gives you some sense of timeframes.

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated, it does give me a good sense of timeframes, it all went quite fast for you and congrats on passing everything!! That's quite an achievement! Hopefully I will hear from them soon, rather than in a year's time :)

Yeah I have nothing to hide…I applied for the Vic/Orp but the day after I passed assessment centre and MMI recruitment rang me and asked if I would like to be put in the Orpington or Tonbridge pot. Both are 20mins from where I live but Tonbridge was the one I selected as it’s a better route without any problems on M25.

They have stated what date my medical is and when my start date is. Also when you get your interview date you will receive a document which outlines the wages during your apprenticeship and common time frames.

Hi congrats on getting this far! I applied back in 2021 totally didn’t hear anything until nov 23 to say I’d passed the online application. I passed the computer and written assessments about a month ago and had my MMI last Monday which I also passed. I’m for either Orp or Ton.
Still waiting for DMI call.

It’s a huge opportunity and honestly such a great boost when you pass the assessments as it opens up other doors. Even if the assessments don’t go as planned it’ll give you a great insight and get you ready to knock it out the park for your second try.

All the best, Adam

Hi all. I have a DMI coming up with Southeastern for Tonbridge depot. Does anyone know the situation for parking near by? Every road seems to be permit only. TIA

There should be space in the station car park on the day. Of course you would have to pay.

Good evening Jatto, first of all congratulations on passing all of the stages and being offered a position with SE.

Im in a similar position to yourself as i was the only one to make it through the day out of 11 people on the 18th of March. I am now awaiting an email or call for a DMI, hopefully it is not a long wait.

could you please kindly give me some tips and how you handled the day of your DMI? How were the managers like who interviewed you?

Does anyone know what the up to date offer is in terms of salary while training and how long you would be on the lower rate? Does it go up in increments? Is there other income such as RDW and overtime that can be had in this period to top it up or are you just on a flat rate?

Regards

Externals start on £24,048 rising to £29,466 upon successful completion of rules. You then remain on this until you pass your ICA and are qualified as a driver at which point it goes up to £46,985 which too stay on for 12 months providing you remain incident free to go up again to £54,575

As a trainee your London allowance would be extra £1998 and as qualified would be £2070

Thanks, what would a typical Ashford roster pattern look like when training and when passed out? Is there an example available anywhere?

You just follow your instructors roster. Be a 4 day week working a mix of earlies, lates and nights. Start anywhere on the 24hr clock and finish the same too but generally speaking with each timetable each depot has a certain amount of jobs allocated so can see what the easiest and latest finishes are. My depot earliest is just before 4:30am and latest finish is just after 1am

Minimum shift is 5:30hr, Maximum 9:15hr.

Don't think Ashford drivers get any London Allowance. It's too far out.

At SE trainee drivers do not get any RDW or rostered overtime.
