As others have said 5 cars on peak trains into and out of London Bridge are a problem. Rammed. Also the 4 car on Watfords too.
I know that they are, I saw a few very busy 5 cars earlier, but in the off peak it doesn’t seem to be that bad.

No, the Dual Voltage units support the metro area services as well
I wonder how passengers north of Watford are faring, without any increase in LNWR services. Many a time I have boarded a full SN train at Watford going south. It is a shame there aren't enough trains to run the Watford services as 8-car.

Peak trains were packed solid yesterday into London Bridge. This move all but cuts off any slack for growth. More road congestion likely

Just wait for the next time the Overground goes up the spout. Admittedly it's rare but my experience in the past was passengers left behind even on 10 coach trains

I remember when the New Cross Gate to Anerley line was extended to 10 car, so what are Southern providing under the new timetable? 5 car on the East Croydon line and only a couple of Victoria services per day. Most services on that line will be 5 car 377s or LO 378s.

What usually determines whether extra (brake?) wagons are added to scrap moves, other than brake issues? All 365s except 506 went to scrap without any part of the haul, and a couple HST power cars did as well, but 455s so far seem to have them on, despite being in service very soon before being sent off.

Basically the Rail Operations Group locomotives have specialised adaptable and adapter couplings to couple up with the 365 317 moves etc.
However if it's a disabled unit like 365506 , then brake Van's are needed for through brake continuity for the train to be able to move due to it being without brakes either side, something a coupler adapter cannot do on the ROG locomotives.

However with the GBRF locomotives their couplers are not compatible with 455 couplings in any shape or form so rather than go to all the expense of upgrading a number of locomotives it’s far easier to use two brake vans either side for the moves which provide brake continuity and are fully compatible with 455s and far cheaper.
Rail operations have 6 locomotives with special adapter couplings. GBRF have none. So two brake vans make sense all around.

Is the whole /2 sub-fleet 'reserved' for the Watford services? If so it seems silly to run 4-car trains.
Yesterday, I saw double 377/2s leading 2B12 0700 Victoria-Epsom Downs.

10 mins ago I saw another double 377/2 passing Selhurst on a service to Ore/Eastbourne.

Also the Watford route only requires 3 377/2s to operate, so it would be a waste to “reserve them” for the route.

It depends on who is doing the haulage. ROG 37s can couple directly to the unit and work the brakes. A GBRf 66 can't do that, hence the wagons.

I was wondering the same but see now the braking so if a Rog was pulling they wouldn't need the wagons would there ever be a chance a Rog would pull one or two in future

I’d doubt it. Surely the ROSCO will normally only contract with one FOC for the whole job?

I see down to each contract it's unreal how much Sims is having so many trains but guess they are not sat around for long in the yard

The paths are now in for 377163 & 164 to return to Southern tomorrow. Whilst not strictly related to 455s retiring (more to do with the next withdrawal).

5P46 11+40 Ramsgate EMUD to Victoria

5Y47 14+13 Victoria to Selhurst T&RSMD

I see these two movements took place. Can anyone confirm if these two sets entered service this week please?

I doubt they've entered service after so few days. They need rebranding, PIS work, and other bits done first.

Is anyone familiar with the process of scrapping a train? I assume they recycle as much metal as possible but what about all the other stuff? Just landfill?

Some places do recycle a lot more than others. You'll find more stripping and recycling will be carried out at places like Eastleigh (Raxstar) and Rotherham (Booths), whereas Newport and Kingsbury just tend to bring the bulldozers in, grab and smash and feed it into the shredder as quickly as possible.

The problem with the 455s are the platform staff have to go inbetween to couple the main res pipe and ETS jumper.

455827
455828
455841 (excluding the tour)

Sims Newport tends to process their stuff quickly especially as the yard is quite small

You would imagine that the leasing companies are selling to the highest bidder, so it would seem odd that Eastleigh and Rotherham are recycling more but generating less profit, unless capacity is driving it? I could only surmise the margins in sale price outweighs the cost of extra storage charges.

There is no ETS jumper on them between units. I assume you mean the control/multi-working jumper cable?
