Southern's Gatwick Express route - can I get on at an unadvertised Selhurst stop?

Hi,

I was wondering if you guys would be able to help me.

I'm thinking of going into town to watch the football on Saturday and getting the Gatwick Express with its unofficial stop at Selhurst back home at the end.

As it's obviously not in the timetables or anything, is there any way of checking it will be running before I go?

Thanks,
Paul

Would the doors be released at such an unofficial stop, or is it just to set down a crew member for the depot?

Looking at the relevant WTT, the stops in question are marked as being for staff purposes only. On occasions when I've been a passenger on a train that's made such stops, the doors haven't been released and access/egress has been via the cab door.

fuuny that, as when I've stopped at Selhurst, the doors have all been opened, but always with a 377.
Problem though with a 442 the platform is not long enough for full opening, front 5 only it would have been. Slows are 10, fasts are 8. You need a 12 car to open all 10 on a 442. the down fast used to have a massive drop between the train and platform, but thats been fixed.
But what the OP is on about, when palace are playing some fasts do make special calls for pick up/drop off. Prob not gatex's due to door issue however, just mainly 377's. Not sure of exact times and not worked one in a while.
Other trains that stop and doors open are 01.00/02.00/03.00/04.00 Vic to btn/gtw/tbd and VV

I believe they also do so at certain times overnight at Norwood Junction, when they take that route instead.

FCC overnight services stop at either Selhurst or Norwood Jct, depending on the route open. However, as it is a staff stop, and there are hardly any FCC staff themselves booked to join / alight, then the driver will not know whether there are staff wanting too. Hence it is easier to release the doors.

The Gatwick Express services do not stop though, only the Southern and FCC services.

Thanks for your help guys - I did mean the 0100\0200 Southern service from Victoria (I just though it was at GatEx) - so it looks like I'll be OK.

Don't open that can ;)

I thought it would be because you wanted to shave a few minutes off your journey by taking a "fast" train - but I guess it is more acceptable if there are no other ones running!

Edit: Even if it doesn't, the N68 will take you straight back to (almost) Selhurst!
