Split Ticket (Finishing Short) Delay Compensation Query

Fairly academic really because I'm not going to put a claim in but I have a question. Travelled from Station A - Station B and return today and was delayed by over 1 hour on the outward journey.

Not wanting to pay £xx.xx for a Station A - Station B return I purchased a Station A - Station D Off Peak Day Return, which is valid via Station C, and a Station C - Station B Off Peak Day Return.

I believe that split tickets are classed as one journey as far as compensation claims are concerned, but what is the situation with split tickets, finishing short on one leg (the leg that had the delay)?

If break of journey is allowed I don't see why it should be any different.

The issue will not be whether this is permitted, as hairyhandedfool has already confirmed that it is valid. The issue will be whether it reveals a good anomaly and whether the passenger is happy for the anomaly to be highlighted to the TOC.

OK, thanks. I'm still not going to put in a claim as I don't think it is an official connection (1 min short), but the same almost happened on the return and I only managed to catch it by sprinting - something many wouldn't be able to do.

Amended original post as advised, but the Station A - Station C journey, but purchasing a Station A - Station D ticket is fairly well known and has been mentioned on here a few times.
