Hello,

Just wondering if anyone knows the station and if they think I'd make a 3 minute connection at this station (from the other platform)?

I know the recommended time is 4 minutes, but what are the chances of me making it?

Thanks :)

I've been asking lots of questions lately haven't I? :)

Easy - it's just a walk across a footbridge.

Aye, you'll be fine.

If you miss it though, avoid a long wait there. It is very, very dodgy.

You'll be slightly lucky not to get a 3 minute delay, mind. In Southern land we run on a permanent 10% quota of services being precisely 3 minutes late...

Thanks everyone, I thought I would, but the fact that the footbridge doesn't go straight to the other platform made me doubt it!

Oh :|

It's easy to get across, no more than 30 seconds; you'll easily make it. I've had to done a 90 second changeover at New Street before from platform 1 to 9b.

I was at SLQ about 1300 one day in summer, planned on doing some photography. I was unfortunate enough to have a little wander around first: I got the first train to Hastings after! It looked quite rough, especially immidiately around the station and all the chavs that were on the station. You'll live, as SussexMan says, but you won't hurry back!

I beg to differ! St. Leonards is a bit run down, sure, and there are a few dodgy types hanging around (hard to name many stations that don't have a few in the vicinity) but St. Leonards is an OK place, not spectacular, just fine, and there are some interesting shops in the road leading away. Also you can walk to the sea front in about five minutes. Although admittedly it can be a bit windswept and unfriendly at night, and as there is a tunnel at each end of the platform there's not much of railway interest to see.

I beg to differ more, I've been spat at, threatened and seen someone nearly push a rail enthusiast onto the track. Hastings isn't much better either. Railway staff are nice though.

Oh God. Maybe I'll just take an earlier train and change at Hastings :|

Wooow. Is that land speed record at Birmingham New Street ?

Frankly, I approach Birmingham New St with all the dread of a visit to a crowded, chaotic and oversized airport. :(

To be honest it was at 19:20 to the concourse wasn't that busy (compared to other parts of the day!). My system of negotiating the station is to plan where you are walking/running at least 3m ahead of you - don't weave into gaps all the time; if you aim towards a person (if its busy) then they should have moved by the time you get to where they were, giving a clearer path. It works for me! :)

I do remember the sense of dread as the 350 I was on came out of the tunnels and I could see our awaiting train home far up the platforms...

After all the effort of making in time to the train... it didn't leave for another 5 minutes!

warrior square is not a station you want to be hanging around at after dark tho, if you do miss your connection.

Isn't that typical!

That's why the Wrexham & Shropshire sevice was so good, I know it took longer to get from London to Telford and Shrewsbury where I had to travel to for a while, but I preferred that to having to change at New Street. (Trains, catering & staff where great too.)
