Any news on when Dundee depot is closing and where route 42 and 77 will be going?

This may be of some interest.

Its not unusual for X51 to operated by Double deckers (or them having full loads) but for most of this week Rennies have been using them instead of the coaches, expect not after 3pm. No idea why there getting swapped around like that, its not the first time as this been happening off and on for a while now.

The double decks will be required for school duties. This will be why the PR2 school bus in the morning which runs as an x51 afterwards has been a d/d this week.

Andrew Jarvis, Managing Director, Stagecoach East Scotland said: "During our extensive service reviews, we want to make sure that the future network we offer is the best one possible for customers and local communities within the finite resources available within a continued fragile economy. The views of local people are very important to us, that is why we are currently consulting with local authorities, customers and other stakeholders and we would encourage them to work with us to help shape the future of their bus services."

Our online feedback page will be live from Thursday 9 - Friday 24 June.

Service Proposals for East Scotland

Stagecoach in Fife

1 Dunfermline – Aberdour Road – Castle Drive – Middlebank Street – Ferrytoll

This service would be withdrawn as the fares collected do not cover the cost of operating the service. Originally launched in August 2014 we took action to reduce costs in early 2015 but this has been insufficient to allow the service to break even.

Other services will provide alternatives for many parts of the route. Revised service 3/3A will link Dunfermline City Centre with Duloch and Lapwing Drive. New service 7B will link the City Centre with Middlebank Street area of Rosyth and then to Inverkeithing. Service 87 will continue to serve the middle section of Aberdour Road.

Between service 1 and 2 withdrawals Castle Drive will not have a service during the off peak although frequent services will continue to pass on Queensferry Road and at Lapwing Drive.

The evening and Sunday service 1A is operated by Stagecoach on behalf of Fife Council and we are currently discussing this with them as part of the consultation process.

2 Halbeath P&R – Duloch – Castle Drive – Rosyth – Ferrytoll
2A Halbeath P&R – Amazon - Duloch – Castle Drive – Rosyth – Ferrytoll

The demand shown for these services, launched in August 2014, has been consistently very low outside of weekday peak times. The fares collected have not covered the cost of operating the service and as with service 1 despite taking action to reduce costs in early 2015 this remains the case.

It is proposed that the service 2 will be withdrawn and that a 30 minute frequency on service 2A will operate but only on weekday peak times (approx 0545 – 0735 and 1625 – 1917).

Revised services 33/33A will provide links between Halbeath park & ride and Fife Leisure Park while revised services 3/3A will provide links from Duloch to Queensferry Road where services to Rosyth and Edinburgh can be connected with.

Between service 1 and 2 withdrawals Castle Drive will not have a service during the off peak although frequent services will continue to pass on Queensferry Road and at Lapwing Drive.

3/3A Townhill – James Street – Abbeyview – Duloch – Pitcorthie Circulars

Services 3/3A would be revised to follow and expanded route. The existing route would continue to operate between Townhill, City Centre and Hospital Hill. This would operate for most of the day at an improved 15 minute frequency, currently every 20 minutes. At Hospital Hill services would then operate in alternate loops via either St Andrews Street, Whitelaw Road, Trondhiem Parkway, Dunlin Drive, Greenbank Drive, Duloch Tesco, Lapwing Drive, Pitcorthie Drive and then back to Townhill. Service 3A would operate in the alternative direction round the loop. This will give departures from the City Centre (James Street) to Duloch every 15 minutes during the day, Monday to Saturdays.

Frequency for Pitcorthie and Lapwing Drive areas remains every 30 minutes in each direction, replacing part of current service 4, while the frequency in Dunlin Drive and Whitelaw Road reduces from every 20 to every 30 minutes.

The existing service 3 route between Aberdour Road (Masterton Primary School) and Halbeath park & ride, via Sandpiper Drive and Fife Leisure Park will no longer be served due to the low use made of the existing service. Revised services 33/33A will provide links between Halbeath park & ride and Fife Leisure Park while service 2A will continue to provide peak time links between Duloch, Sandpiper Drive and Halbeath park & ride.

Some journeys on services 3/3A will extend to Amazon to suit shift times.

The evening and Sunday services are operated by Stagecoach on behalf of Fife Council and we are currently discussing this with them as part of the consultation process.

4 Dunfermline – Carnock – Oakley - Blairhall

The section of route between the bus station and Duloch is transferred to revised service 3/3A (see above).

Between Dunfermline and Blairhall the current route and frequency remains every 30 minutes as now with minor timetable changes planned.

The evening and Sunday services are operated by Stagecoach on behalf of Fife Council and we are currently discussing this with them as part of the consultation process.

5/5A Dunfermline - Abbeyview Circulars

No major changes are planned for these services. They will continue to follow the current route, generally every 20 minutes in each direction, however in the very early mornings when demand is very low we are making some changes to times.

The evening and Sunday services are operated by Stagecoach on behalf of Fife Council and we are currently discussing this with them as part of the consultation process.

6 Steelend – Saline – Golfdrum Street - Dunfermline – Limekilns – Crombie

It is proposed that the section of route between Steelend and Dunfermline will be withdrawn. Fares collected on this service do not cover the cost of operation and many of those using service 6 currently can use service 4 to reach Oakley, Carnock or Gowkhall.

We appreciate that this leaves the villages of Saline and Steelend with only Fife Council supported service 28 and that this, in its current form, would not provide the level of service that villagers would hope for. Discussions are ongoing between Stagecoach and Fife Council as to what alternative service provision can be put in place and as discussions continue we will communicate these.

The other section of route that would be left unserved is Golfdrum Street in Dunfermline. It would be recommended that anyone with concerns about this area get in touch with Fife Council’s Transportation Services.

Minor changes will also be introduced to the Crombie end of the service although the route and frequency will generally remain as present.

7 Leven – Buckhaven – Victoria Hospital – Kirkcaldy – Dalgety Bay – Dunfermline

We are proposing a new timetable for this service and a slight amendment to the route in Rosyth.

Service 7 would operate every 30 minutes (from approximately 0500 until 1800) Monday to Saturdays and then every hour in the evening and Sundays as now. The busier sections of the route will be enhanced with service 7A (see below) also running every 30 minutes to provide a 15 minute frequency between Leven, East Wemyss, Dysart, Victoria hospital and Kirkcaldy bus station. New service 7B (also see below) will run every 30 minutes providing a co-ordinated 15 minute service between Dunfermline, Rosyth, Inverkeithing and Dalgety Bay.

While the new service 7 will operate slightly less frequently during off peak periods than at present the new timetable will operate more frequently in some cases than presently as there will be an end to the various schoolday / non schoolday variations.

In Rosyth service 7 will be rerouted to serve Camdean. This means stops at Dick Place and Tesco will no longer be served by service 7, although service 7B will serve these stops. In Camdean the service will follow the current service 19 route and stops.

7A Leven – Methilhill – Victoria Hospital – Kirkcaldy

After requests this service will be rerouted in Kirkcaldy. It will now operate from Dysart via Loughborough Road, replacing service 13, and then via Victoria Hospital. This will reinstate links from the Methilhill area to the hospital. The top section of Windmill Road will no longer be served although alternative services are available at Rosslynn Street and The Fairway.

The frequency will be reduced slightly from every 20 to every 30 minutes, but will combine service 7 to provide an improved 15 minute frequency between Leven, East Wemyss, Dysart and Victoria Hospital.

At Kirkcaldy most journeys on service 7A will continue to Central Fife Retail Park as service 15. This will provide better links from Leven, the coastal communities and east Kirkcaldy to the retail park.

7B Kelty – QM Hospital – Dunfermline – Middlebank – Inverkeithing – Dalgety Bay

This new service would replace service 9 between Kelty and Dunfermline. It would then offer an improved frequency on the Dunfermline to Dalgety Bay corridor alongside service 7.

Operating every 30 minutes during the daytime the new service will cover the current route to Dunfermline then via Queensferry Road, Middlebank Street, Rosyth Crossroads, Castlelandhill, Inverkeithing Square, Dalgety Bay Link Road, Moray Way (The Bridges) and terminate at Regents Way shopping centre. At peak times some journeys will serve Hillend Industrial Estate and St Davids Harbour.

The route will offer cross town links to Queen Margaret Hospital, improved service provision for eastern Rosyth and the southern part of Dalgety Bay.

For residents of Kelty the existing 30 minute daytime frequency will continue to be provided but the extension to Dalgety Bay will provide direct links to employments areas at Pitreavie and Hillend.

On Sundays the service will operate with route number 7C between Kelty and Inverkeithing only via the weekday route except for in Rosyth where buses will follow the service 7 route through Camdean rather than Middlebank Street.

There is a greatly reduced demand for the later evening service between Dunfermline and Kelty and it is proposed that this would be withdrawn however Stagecoach and Fife Council are in discussion as part of the consultation process about what alternative transport provision can be made.

8 Dunfermline – High Valleyfield – Kincardine – Alloa – Stirling
9 Kelty – QM Hospital – Dunfermline – High Valleyfield

Service 9 would be withdrawn and replaced by new service 7B between Dunfermline and Kelty (see above). The section between Dunfermline and High Valleyfield would be replaced by a revised service 8.

The current service 8 is a commercial service, ie operated without local authority subsidy, and the fares collected are insufficient to cover the cost of operation. The busiest section of the route is between High Valleyfield and Dunfermline.

Our proposal is for the service 8 to operate every 30 minutes between Dunfermline bus station, High Valleyfield and Culross. The section of route between Culross and Stirling would be withdrawn.

For those using service 8 wholly within Clackmannanshire or Stirling a choice of alternative services are available provided by either First or Mackies. Kincardine will continue to be served by the Glasgow express services so will still be linked to Dunfermline but no direct link will exist between High Valleyfield/Culross and Kincardine and there will be no service between Kincardine High Street and Clackmannan.

The loss of the service linking West Fife and Stirling will be a disappointment to those who use it currently but the changing retail demand has seen use of the route decline and now become unsustainable.

It is proposed that the current commercial evening service for High Valleyfield will be withdrawn but discussions are taking place with Fife Council about any possible alternative provision.

9/9A (new) Denhead/Bonnybank – Kennoway – Leven – Buckhaven – Methilhill

These new services will replace the busiest sections of current services 48/48A/49/49A. The existing 30 minute frequency will be maintained between Kennoway shops, Myreside Avenue, Linwood Drive, Leven, Lower Methil or Aberhill Tower Bar, Buckhaven, Methilhill and Queens Square. Hourly extensions will operate from Denhead (9) or Bonnybank (9A).

Between Leven and Kennoway the service will be supplemented by services 41B, 43 and 46 maintaining the 4 or 5 journeys per hour between the two towns.

No decision has been reached about Fife Council tendered journeys although this will be discussed as part of the consultation process.

11 Kirkcaldy – Brodick Road – Redcraigs – Retail Park
12 Kirkcaldy – Brodick Road – Birnam Road – Retail Park

We are proposing to extend service 12 to Glen Bruar Place, reinstating links between that area and Torbain Primary School.

Frequencies on services 11 and 12 will be improved in the weekday afternoon with the current combined 15 minute frequency replaced by the same 10 minute frequency operating during the rest of the day. There will be minor changes to the timetables of both routes throughout the day and weekends.

Service 11A in the evening will no longer extend to the Retail Park however the 12A continues to serve this at these times.

13 West Wemyss – Dysart – Victoria Hospital – Kirkcaldy – John Smith Business Park

This service is operated by Stagecoach under contract from Fife Council. They have requested that the service return to serving Dysart Road rather than Loughborough Road, service 7A replacing it there.

We are discussing further changes to the route in the Sauchenbush and Chapel areas with Fife Council and will communicate these when a decision is reached.

14 Kirkcaldy – Dunnikier Estate

The Monday to Saturday daytime service on this route is operated commercially and due to a substantial reduction in passenger use over the last year or so we have unfortunately come to the conclusion that the current 20 minute frequency is no longer viable. We are proposing therefore that the service will be revised to operate hourly from around 0800 until 2300, a slightly later start as now on a Sunday.

The routing around Salmahoy Crescent will be retained for off peak journeys.

15 Kirkcaldy – Templehall – Harris Drive – Retail Park – Glen Bruar Place

Service 15 would be revised to operate on a 30 minute frequency rather than the current 20 minute off peak service. The peak service would remain similar to now.

As described above it is proposed that most journeys on service 15 will connect with service 7A at Kirkcaldy bus station and therefore will offer an advertised connection for through travel to Victoria Hospital, Dysart and Leven.

Service 15 will continue to serve Glen Bruar Place alongside the extended service 12 offering up to five departures an hour to and from the bus station.

16/A Kirkcaldy Circulars

We launched these new services in November 2015 with an aim of opening up new links to the many retail, employment and health facilities around Kirkcaldy. Unfortunately the numbers of passengers making use of the services is extremely low and we cannot continue to support the losses so would propose full withdrawal of the routes.

This would leave the Sauchenbush and Spey Road/Oswald Road areas without an alternative bus service. Fife Council are aware of this and are looking at options for service 13 to serve the Sauchenbush area, it already serves this area in the evening and on Sundays. The Spey Road, Park Road, Oswald Road area is a relatively small area with other services available in surrounding streets (St Clair Street, Dunnikier Way and Overton Road), the furthest walk to an alternative bus stop being less than 500 metres.

17 Dunfermline – Garvock – Leisure Park – Cowdenbeath – Kelty
18 Kirkcaldy – Victoria Hospital – Cowdenbeath - Kelty

Both of these services are proposed for withdrawal. Both are commercially operated and the fares collected do not cover the cost of operating the routes.

This will leave some areas without a Stagecoach service however alternative services are available between Kelty and Cowdenbeath, operated by Bay Travel, and within Cowdenbeath itself, revised services 33/33A and service 81.

For those travelling from Kelty to Kirkcaldy alternative facilities will be available with service X55 rerouted via Halbeath park & ride and service X27 now operating twice an hour from there direct to Victoria Hospital and Kirkcaldy bus station. Journey times will be reduced as a result with the fastest journeys over 20% quicker than at present.

Between Cowdenbeath and Kirkcaldy a revised service 33/33A would continue to offer two journeys an hour from the town via Victoria Hospital as the current 18 and 33 do now.

The section of route between Dunfermline and Cowdenbeath on service 17 would be largely replaced by the revised 33/33A following the current 33 route from Dunfermline bus station via Bellyeoman Road, Queen Margaret Hospital, Asda, Fife College, Fife Leisure Park, Halbeath park & ride, Crossgates and then alternate journeys via Hill of Beath or Moss-side Road. This will leave the Garvock Hill area of Dunfermline without a service although discussions are ongoing with Fife Council as to how this can be resolved and any further developments will be communicated.

19 Ballingry – Cowdenbeath – Dunfermline – Rosyth – Hilton Road

It is proposed that service 19 be subject to minor changes of route. The diversion via Main Street in Halbeath introduced last November will be withdrawn with service 81 providing an alternative daytime service. In Rosyth all journeys would follow a common route from the Halt direct via Queensferry Road to the Crossroads, Castlelandhill, Ridley Drive, Admiralty Road, Castle Road and terminate at Hilton Road. This would operate every 10 minutes during the daytime improving frequencies between Rosyth and the Dockyard area and from Rosyth to Dunfermline.

The service via Kings Road (19A) would be withdrawn but alternatives are available from bus stops on Admiralty Road, Park Road/Park Road West and at Rosyth Halt. Usage from the stops on Kings Road has been very low.

Camdean would no longer be served by service 19 however it will now be served by service 7 (and Sunday only 7C) which will maintain links with Dunfermline and to Rosyth shopping areas. It will open up new links to Inverkeithing and to Dalgety Bay, Kirkcaldy, Vicotira Hospital and Leven.

At peak times the service currently operates in to the Dockyard site at Wood Road. Traffic congestion caused by this diversion has caused reliability problems elsewhere on the route so we are proposing that service 19 would terminate at Hilton Road at all times however at weekday peak times a new X19 service will be introduced running to/from Wood Road and then fast to Dunfermline bus station via Kings Road.

As presently evening and weekend journeys will run via the Fife Leisure Park and these in future will operate as service 19A.

An earlier weekday morning journey from Ballingry is introduced (departs 0443) to open up access to employment opportunities around Dunfermline and Rosyth for shift workers. Improved early morning connections are planned to service 747 for journeys to Edinburgh Airport.

In general all times are subject to minor alterations but overall frequencies and times of operation remain as present.

23 St Andrew – Cupar – Kinross – Dollar – Stirling

The service between St Andrews and Stirling has historically been an important link but demand for the service has reduced in recent years as alternative services have been introduced or improved. There are still busy journeys but these can no longer support the poorer performing journeys and so we are proposing some slight reductions to the timetable.

Currently the service operates every 2 hours giving six return journeys a day. We are proposing to reduce this to four return journey a day. These will still provide the current journeys to and from Dollar for school pupils.

Passengers between St Andrews and Cupar have access to alternative hourly services X24, X59, 64/A and 94/A. Between Cupar and Bow of Fife the 64/64A offers hourly journeys and between Cupar and Auchtermuchty the 94A offers a 2 hourly service. From Auchtermuchty the 66 offers a 2 hourly service to Gateside and Burnside. Beyond Burnside the 23 is joined by service 56 at Mawcarse and the X55 at Milnathort to provide services into Kinross. West from Kinross the 23 is the only service through Crook of Devon, Rumbling Bridge and Yetts o’ Muchart but from Dollar there is once again a number of other local services along the Hillfoots and into Stirling.

X24 St Andrews – Glenrothes – Dunfermline – Glasgow

It is proposed that, subject to agreement with the owners, service X24 will be extended to Glasgow Airport. This will then offer an hourly service, seven days a week connecting Fife, including Halbeath park & ride, and Cumbernauld directly to Glasgow Airport and its range of flight destinations.

To allow the extension to the route the timetable will be changed. This will include an earlier journey to Glasgow from Dunfermline, arriving at 0510. The overall frequency between Halbeath and Glasgow city centre will remain every 20 minutes.

Between St Andrews and Glenrothes it is hoped that the existing service 24 can be revised to operate as X24 offering St Andrews a departure from Glasgow at 2115 rather than the current last through departure at 1925.

X26 Kirkcaldy – Auchtertool – Dunfermline - Glasgow
X27 Leven – Kirkcaldy – Dunfermline – Glasgow

It is proposed that service X26 routing between Kirkcaldy and Halbeath park and ride be withdrawn and that all journeys would in future operate as service X27 via A92, Chapel and Victoria Hospital to reach Kirkcaldy. This will increase the frequency of express services from West Fife (Kincardine, Cairneyhill, Crossford and Dunfermline) Victoria Hospital from once an hour to twice an hour. Kirkcaldy maintains its twice hourly links to Glasgow.

This will result in the loss of service for Auchtertool and the Mossgreen area of Crossgates. Crossgates is served by alternative services 19 and 33 on Main Street, Dunfermline Road which is at most around 800 meters from existing bus stops. Bay Travel also operate a local service through the Mossgreen area so no stops will be left unserved. Auchtertool will not be so easily served as no alternative services are currently available. Fife Council are aware of this and should a solution be agreed we will communicate this.

The Sunday service on the X27 will be extended so all journeys start/finish at Leven and an additional later Monday to Saturday return journey from Leven to Glasgow is introduced offering a 2045 departure from Glasgow, one hour later than present.

30 Caskieberran – Glenrothes – Woodside

This service would replace the existing G6 service. The route would remain the same with a revised timetable in operation but overall the general hourly frequency Monday to Saturday daytime would remain.

X30 Dunfermline – Cowdenbeath – Kinglassie – Glenrothes

The existing one weekday morning journey on this route will be renumbered as a X54 and slightly retimed.

32 Glenrothes – Kinglassie – Cardenden – Kirkcaldy

This Fife Council supported service would be extended beyond Glenrothes bus station to replace service G7 operating via Pitteuchar, Bankhead and Stenton. This will open up new cross town links and should prove useful for those travelling from Cardenden and Kinglassie to Fife College and Bankhead Industrial area.

The current hourly frequency would continue to operate although evening and Sunday times would change slightly to improve reliability.

33/A Dunfermline – QM Hosp - Cowdenbeath – Lochgelly – Cardenden – Victoria Hosp - Kirkcaldy

We are proposing that service 33 is improved from an hourly service to become a half hourly service. This will double the frequency of service between Queen Margaret & Victoria Hospitals and between Queen Margaret and Halbeath park & ride. Cardenden and Lochgelly will gain enhanced service levels to the employment and leisure areas of west Dunfermline as a half hourly link will be provided to Fife Leisure Park.

In Cowdenbeath alternate journeys will operate via either Moss-side Road & Stenhouse Street or via Hill of Beath and the Fountain (33A). Earlier morning journeys into Dunfermline will cater for employment at Fife Leisure Park and the hospital.

In association with Fife Council we hope to provide an improved evening service with hourly departures from Kirkcaldy until approximately 2300 Monday to Saturday and we propose to introduce a Sunday service to the route.

34 Kirkcaldy – Cardenden – Lochgelly – Ballingry

This service is proposed for withdrawal. It currently operates hourly off peak, with a gap between 1345 and 1655 on weekdays. For the section of route between Kirkcaldy and Lochgelly either the revised service 33/33A will continue to cater for passengers or service 32 which will continue to serve Corrie Centre and Dundonald in Cardenden.

Overall frequency remains at two per hour between Kirkcaldy and Lochgelly with the 33/33A all routed via Lindores Drive in Kirkcaldy.

For those travelling from Ballingry, Lochore or Glencraig service 19 provides a 10 minute frequency into Lochgelly from where the improved 33/33A operates every 30 minutes to Kirkcaldy. The improved service levels on service 33 will also allow for later evening return journeys from Kirkcaldy than at present with service 34.

35 Cupar – Newburgh – Perth
36 Glenrothes – Newburgh – Perth

We are proposing that this service would in future only run between Newburgh and Perth, on a similar frequency to present. Between Glenrothes and Newburgh the service is only one of several running through these remote communities and overall demand for the service has fallen so resources would be concentrated on the busier section of route.

Alternatives are available; between Newburgh and Auchtermuchty service 94A operates two hourly. Auchtermuchty to Glenrothes has service 66 every two hours and from Dunshalt to Glenrothes there is additionally services 64/64A every hour.

A shoppers service on a Saturday would continue to run from Glenrothes to Perth, the present 36A being renumbered a 66A.

As parts of this service lie in Perth and Kinross Council’s area we are in discussions with them regarding some changes to tendered journeys between Abernethy and Perth.

X37 Kirkcaldy – Gallatown – Woodside – Glenrothes – North Glenrothes – Flemington Road

The current X40 would be revised. We are proposing that this would extend beyond its current terminus at Pitcairn Avenue via Collydean and Rothes Road to Glenrothes bus station, replacing part of the current 39B, and then continue to Asda and Flemington Road for Morrisons and Aldi. This would replace part of service 38 and maintains links from North Glenrothes to Asda whilst creating new links to the other supermarkets.

To recognise the change away from differeing route numbers for Cadham or Collydean we are proposing that the whole service becomes X37 meaning services in both directions around the North Glenrothes loops would be an X37.

There would be some amendments to the timetable and some additional morning peak journeys introduced.

38 Newcastle – Napier Road – Glenrothes – Flemington Road

This service would be replaced by new service X37 serving Flemington Road and a revised 39B serving Napier Road. It would be necessary to change buses at Glenrothes bus station for travel between Newcastle and Morrisons but no area would be left unserved.

39/A/B Kirkcaldy – Victoria Hospital – Thornton – Pitteuchar – Newcastle / Leslie

In November 2015 we carried out some major changes to the Glenrothes bus network. These were aimed at trying to increase access to alternative retail destinations as the traditional town centre shops suffered decline. Whilst the changes we welcomed by many during the consultation prior to those changes the demand for the revised service has not grown sufficiently to cover the cost increase generated by adding additional vehicles into the network.

Based on actual demand we are therefore proposing that the 39/39A between Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes be reduced from a 10 minute daytime frequency to a 15 minute frequency allowing for the withdrawal of the current 39B service. No areas of route would be lost by this withdrawal with the 39/39A still covering the same route between Kirkcaldy and Glenrothes, and still providing a frequent link with Thornton and Victoria Hospital. New service X37 would replace the 39B between Glenrothes bus station, Collydean and Pitcairn Avenue. Direct links between Collydean and Victoria Hospital would be discontinued but interchange from the X37 at either Glenrothes or Kirkcaldy bus stations would allow for frequent connections to the hospital.

Our proposal would see the 39/39A continue to serve the current routes from Kirkcaldy to Glenrothes bus station but then both would leave via Church Street, omitting Asda which would require a connection to the new X37 service. Leslie would continue to be served half hourly as now by the 39A.

Within Glenrothes service 39 would be revised to operate through to Whitehills Industrial Estate at peak times to open up new connections to employment opportunities. During the off peak daytime one journey an hour would also be rerouted via Napier Road to replace service 38. These journeys would now run as service 39B and between these and service 32 Napier Road will continue to have two buses an hour.

We are proposing to reduce the very late evening frequency from half hourly to hourly as demand for these journeys is very low.

40/A Edinburgh – South Queensferry

In order for us to improve reliability we believe that service 40 cannot continue to operate during the evening peak as delays on the A90 approaching the Forth Road Bridge are greatly impacting on this service. We are therefore proposing that some journeys will change from being a 40 to a 40A whereas other journeys will follow a new route variation 40B that will operate in a one way loop of the town from Dalmeny then via Scotstoun, Ecline, town centre and back to Edinburgh via Dalmeny.

The evening service will also be revised with late evenings reduced to an hourly frequency however changes to service X55 will still allow for two “all stops” journeys per hour between Edinburgh to Barnton as now. All the evening journeys would follow the new 40B route.

X40 Kirkcaldy – Gallatown – Woodside – Glenrothes – North Glenrothes

This service would be replaced by new service X37. All current route and frequency would be retained.

41 Cupar – Kennoway – Kirkcaldy
41B Cupar – Kennoway – Leven - Buckhaven

The existing daytime, Monday to Saturday, journeys on service 41 are operated commercially by Stagecoach and the fares revenue no longer covers the cost of operation. Our proposal therefore is that the service would be withdrawn. This does not affect the service 41B as this is operated by Stagecoach on behalf of Fife Council. This will mean that any current users of the 41 will continue to have access to the two hourly service and can connect at Leven bus station any of the seven departures each hour to Kirkcaldy, five of which also serve Victoria Hospital. Those travelling from Cupar to Kirkcaldy will continue to have an hourly express service which also serves the hospital (new X53).

The tendered evening and Sunday journeys on service 41 will be a matter for Fife Council to consider as part of the consultation.

42/B St Andrews – Leuchars – Tayport – Dundee

We are proposing to improve the frequency of the 41 service between Dundee and Tayport. This would see the current 20 minute frequency improved to every 15 minutes. One journey per hour would continue to extend beyond Tayport to Leuchars and St Andrews with peak time journeys via Strathkinnes as now (service 42B).

The hourly journey currently between Dundee, Tayport and Cupar would be replaced by an improved express service X53/X54 (see below). Although through journeys would no longer be possible between Tayport and Cupar then number of such journeys made is small and it would still be possible to connect between services at either St Michaels or at Guardbridge.

Evening and Sunday service provision is under discussion with Fife Council but will not see any reduction in service provision.

X42 Kirkcaldy – Glenrothes – Ladybank – Cupar – Dundee – Ninewells Hospital

This service would be replaced by new service X53. Our proposal is that the new service would operate on a similar frequency to now, hourly, but would terminate in Dundee city centre rather than at Ninewells Hospital. Whilst this will be less convenient for those travelling to Ninewells there are in the region of 30 journeys per hour between the city centre and the hospital provided by Stagecoach and other operators. Interchange will be relatively easy.

43/A Whitehills – Glenrothes – Kennoway - Leven
44/A/B Whitehills – Glenrothes – Methilhill - Leven
45 Glenrothes - Markinch
46/A Glenrothes – Star – Kennoway - Leven
X4/A Glenrothes – Markinch – Leven

No major changes are proposed for these services, only some minor timing amendments.

47 Leven – Mountfleurie

This service would be withdrawn. Although important for those who use it currently the level of demand is not sufficient to allow for continued operation.

Other services are available in parts of the route; Sainsburys (43, 46, X4), Scoonie Road (9/9A, X60, 95), Mountfleurie Street (43, 46, X4 on Glenlyon Road) and Windygates Road (X4, X27). Discussions are ongoing with Fife Council regarding other parts of the route and the evening and Sunday tendered journeys.

48/A/B Levenmouth Circular
49/A/B Levenmouth Circular

These services have again suffered from loss of demand due to the local economic issues. We are proposing that the services be withdrawn although new services 9 and 9A will cover the majority of these routes at the current frequencies.

The only section of route no covered by the 9/9A will be that between Queens Square Methilhill and Kennoway shops. Alternative services are available thought with service 43 running between Windygates and Kennoway and the 44 running via Windygates and Methilhill. Both 43 and 44 then continue to Leven so direct links from Windygates to Leven are maintained twice hourly. The only direct links that are no longer available are journeys from Windygates to Buckhaven as this would require a connection at Methilhill or Leven bus station at most times of the day (service 44B continues to operate at peak times). Cameron Hospital retains service 44 which allows for connection to the rest of the Levenmouth area (again allowing for connection for Buckhaven).

The evening and Sunday tendered service will be discussed with Fife Council during the consultation process.

X51 Dunfermline – Ferrytoll – Livingston

We launched the weekday timetable on this service in August 2015 and to date the daytime shoppers journeys have proven very popular. Unfortunately the peak time commuter journeys have not generated sufficient demand to justify the cost of providing these journeys and so we propose to withdraw the early morning and last evening journeys on weekdays.

It is also proposed that the service revert to stopping at all stops between Dunfermline and Ferrytoll, albeit via the same route as now.

X53 Dalgety Bay – Ferrytoll – Edinburgh

Demand for this peak hours only service has fallen steeply and the remaining demand is predominantly that between Ferrytoll park & ride and Edinburgh. We are therefore proposing withdrawal of this service as part of an overhaul and improvement package for the X58 and X60 services. This will see frequency between Dalgety Bay and Edinburgh change from every 15 minute at peak to every 20 minutes.

As the X58 and X60 do not serve St Davids Harbour peak journeys on new service 7B will be routed this way to allow connection into Edinburgh services at Inverkeithing.

X53 (new) Kirkcaldy – Glenrothes – Ladybank – Cupar – Dundee

This service would replace most of the X42. Operating hourly over the same route as the X42 to Dundee city centre additional stopping points would be introduced at Cupar for the oats factory to allow access to employment opportunities and at Drumoig to allow travel to and from Cupar.

The service will be operated by a fleet of Express City Connect single deckers offering air conditioning, WiFi and leather seats.

It is planned to introduce some evening and Sunday journeys on to the route but these are still in discussion.

X54 Dundee – Glenrothes – Halbeath – Ferrytoll - Edinburgh

In order to grow demand for the X54 we are proposing that it be rerouted from the New Inn Roundabout via the A914 to Cupar and then again via the A914 to Dundee city centre. This would introduce new stops at Kettlebridge, Balmalcolm, Pitessie, Cupar Knox Gardens, Cupar railway station, Cupar East Road, Dairsie, Balmullo, St Michaels, Drumoig and Forgan Roundabout. For Kettlebridge, Balmalcolm and Pitessie this would give them a direct bus to Dundee and a doubling of frequency to Edinburgh, which Cupar and Dairsie would also benefit from.

Cupar will then benefit from a 30 minute express service to and from Dundee, all of which will serve the city centre and not just the bus station.

The existing X54 route from New Inn Roundabout via A92 through Freuchie, Ladybank, then A92, Letham, A92, Newport to Tay Bridge would no longer be served. For Freuchie and Letham the new X53 will continue to provide links to Dundee and in addition to this local services 64/A and 66 will continue to offer links to Glenrothes. Letham will continue to be served but only by service 64/64A which would offer connections to Dundee from Cupar. The small villages along the A92 would not be served by any services but demand is extremely small. Newport will be served by revised Stagecoach Strathtay services 39/39A (see below).

Overall journey time remains pretty similar to the current A92 and Newport route. The proposal sees all journeys removed from Newport but at the request of Fife Council we are reviewing that at peak times.

Service provision remains similar to now with frequency and first or last departures much as now.

X55 Perth – Kinross – Kelty – Dunfermline – Ferrytoll – Edinburgh
X56 Perth – Kinross – Ferrytoll – Edinburgh

We are proposing a revised X55 timetable offering faster journeys between Dunfermline and Edinburgh. The route would be revised to omit Inverkeithing, except for evening journeys operating as service 55. Stopping arrangements would also be revised with fewer stops to improve journey times. Between Dunfermline and Ferrytoll buses would stop at Kingsgate, St Leonards Asda, Cottage Inn, King Malcolm Hotel, Cypress Grove, Pitreavie Bank Card Centre, Carnegie Campus, Rosyth Tesco/Dick Place, Palace, Parish Church, Crossroads and Ferrytoll. The revised service would operate every 20 minutes during the daytime, Monday to Saturdays, and hourly in the evenings. As now there would be a half hourly Sunday daytime service.

North of Dunfermline the route will be diverted via Halbeath P&R to allow for connections between the express network and in Perth the Broxden section of route would be withdrawn. Stopping arrangements on Halbeath Road would be amended to match other express services with East End Park, Whitefield Road and Fife College becoming the new standard stopping pattern for all.

Between Kinross and Kelty journeys would observe new stops at Gairneybridge Farm and Hatchbank Road.

Commuter express X56 would no longer serve Kelty to improve journey times from Kinross and Perth to Edinburgh but additional journeys on the X55 would be extended to/from Kelty.

56 Halbeath – Kelty – Kinross – Perth

This service is financially supported by Perth & Kinross Council. With the termination of the current contract planned for 14th August the future service is unlikely to extend beyond Kinross to Kelty and Halbeath however revisions to the X55 allow for Kelty to Halbeath park & ride journey opportunities to remain.

Final details of the service will be agreed after consultation with Perth & Kinross Council.

X57 Kirkcaldy – Burntisland – Dalgety Bay – Ferrytoll – Edinburgh

Demand for this peak hours only service has fallen steeply and the remaining demand is predominantly that between Ferrytoll park & ride and Edinburgh. We are therefore proposing withdrawal of this service as part of an overhaul and improvement package for the X58 and X60 services.

The very small number of people using the service from Kinghorn, Burntisland and Aberdour will be able to connect at either Dalgety Bay or Inverkeithing Square with the revised X58 and X60 for onward travel to Edinburgh.

57 Kirkcaldy – Kinghorn - Burntisland

This service is not heavily used and as such does not cover its cost of operation. We are therefore proposing withdrawal. For most users the service 7 offers a direct replacement or for those in Burntisland it may require a connection between the service 7 and Fife Council supported service B1, operated by Bay Travel.

Within Kinghorn the furthest distance to an alternative bus stop is less than 500 metres.

X58 Leven – Kirkcaldy – Dalgety Bay – Ferrytoll – Edinburgh
X60 St Andrews – Anstruther – Leven – Kirkcaldy – Dalgety Bay – Ferrytoll – Edinburgh
X62 St Andrews – Anstruther – Leven – Kirkcaldy – Dalgety Bay – Ferrytoll – Edinburgh

We are proposing to enhance this service at peak times by offering three journeys per hour between Leven, Kirkcaldy, Dalgety Bay and Edinburgh. This 20 minute frequency will replace the current 30 minute service. The X62 variant will also be withdrawn with all journeys either following the X58 or X60 routes. X60 will now serve Pentland Rise in Dalgety Bay in addition to the railway station giving this area of Dalgety Bay double the number of journeys per hour into Edinburgh during off peak periods. Evening and Sunday service levels will remain as now.

Service X58 will be withdrawn between Leven and St Andrews due to the low overall use made of this part of the route. At peak times a new service 97 will replace it, at times when the X58 is at its busiest. This will become the only regular bus service through Largoward. During other times of the day there is an existing demand responsive transport service for the Largoward area that Fife Council plan to amend to offer connection at Upper Largo to our other services. Travel between Leven, Upper Largo and St Andrews will still be possible every hour on service X60.

Overall the remainder of the route continues with present frequencies.

The Friday and Saturday night service N58 from Edinburgh to Kirkcaldy would also be withdrawn due to the decline in demand for this service.

X59 St Andrews – Glenrothes – Halbeath – Ferrytoll – Edinburgh
X61 Glenrothes – North Kirkcaldy – Halbeath – Ferrytoll - Edinburgh

We launched the present X61 service in early 2015 but to date the number of people using the service from Kirkcaldy, Thornton and Glenrothes areas has remained consistently small and is a long way short of the numbers required to pay for a coach service. Therefore we are proposing that the X61 is withdrawn.

The improvements to service X27 will partly replace the X61 through Victoria Hospital and north Kirkcaldy allowing for connection at Halbeath park & ride to the frequent services for Edinburgh. The overall frequency between north Kirkcaldy and Halbeath remain at two per hour as now. The section of route between Gallatown and Glenrothes will not be directly replaced but connections are possible from other local bus services (39/39A/39B) to Edinburgh services at Kirkcaldy bus station (services X58/X60).

The frequency between Halbeath park & ride and Edinburgh will be maintained with a general 20 minute frequency during off peak periods provided by services X54 and X59.

Service X59 would be subject to minor changes to times and additional journeys would be added between Halbeath and Edinburgh.

64/A Glenrothes – Ladybank – Cupar – Strathkinnes – St Andrews

At Fife Councils request some evening journeys will be rerouted via Glenrothes Hospital.

81 Parkneuk – Dunfermline – QM Hospital – Ballingry – Glenrothes

This service will be rerouted via Halbeath village, partly replacing service 19, and will in future serve Scott Street, Dunfermline in both directions. Some early morning and late evening journeys are extended to and from Dunfermline bus station. Other minor timetable amendments would be made.

92 St Andrews University

Operation of this university term time service would be enhanced for the new academic year.

95/395 Leven – Anstruther – Crail – St Andrews

Minor changes to evening and Sunday timetable to improve connections with X60.

201 Glenrothes – Leslie – Kinross

This service is finically supported by Perth & Kinross Council and the current contract for Stagecoach to operate the route is due to terminate on 13th August. Perth & Kinross Council have been holding their own consultation in Kinrossshire as part of their planning process to decide on future requirements.

For more information we would recommend contacting Perth & Kinross Council.

747 Halbeath – Ferrytoll – Edinburgh Airport

We are proposing the introduction of earlier and later journeys on this service which would mean the service operating 24 hours a day to accommodate the needs of travellers and staff coming in from Fife.

Our proposal is for this to include revised routing so that all journeys serve Halbeath park & ride so journeys to or from Dunfermline would operate via Halbeath Road rather than Queensferry Road.

Fife Council school services are subject to change from the beginning of the new term in August. Please contact your local authority for details of any changes during the school holidays.

Stagecoach Strathtay

16/A/B/X Dundee – Invergowrie – Errol - Perth

The majority of these services are operated under contract to Perth & Kinross Council and our contract to operate them ends on 14th August 2016. Until such times as we understand what service levels are proposed by the council we have put forward a proposal for an hourly daytime service, Monday to Saturday, operating a revised route from Dundee bus station via Perth Road, Ninewells, Invergowrie, Longforgan, Inchture, Errol, St Madoes, Perth city centre and terminating at Perth Royal Infirmary.

31/33 Arbroath (College) – Brechin - Laurencekirk

Due to changes in the requirement for college transport at Dundee & Angus College in Arbroath it is proposed that services 31 and 33 will be merged to form a new service 33 linking Laurencekirk, Brechin and Montrose with the college.

39/39A Gauldry – Wormit – Newport – Dundee – Arbroath

Service 39 would be extended to also serve Newport, Wormit and Gauldry. The daytime frequency will remain as now, half hourly and some additional early morning and evening journeys will be introduced between Arbroath and Dundee.

59 Blairgowrie – Coupar Angus – Muirhead - Dundee

The current Monday to Friday journeys are 0921 and 1542 from Piperdam to Dundee and the 0850 and 1510 from Dundee to Piperdam journeys would all be withdrawn due to the low usage being made of them however an additional 0855 departure from Blairgowrie will partly replace the 0927 from Muirhead to Dundee.

77/77B Gauldry – Wormit – Newport – Dundee – Invergowrie

We are proposing that the current services 77/77B will be replaced by an extension of the current service 39 (Arbroath to Dundee) with the section of route between the city centre and Invergowrie/Kingoodie withdrawn. Alternative services exist for connection to Ninewells Hospital or to reach Invergowrie (16) but at present these are under discussion with Perth & Kinross Council who financially support a number of services in the Carse area.

The frequency between Dundee and Gauldry would remain as now, half hourly. The infrequent extensions to Balmerino would be withdrawn however there are limited alternative bus services provided by Moffat & Williamsons and a Fife Council Demand Responsive Transport scheme available.

88 Broughty Ferry – Douglas – Whitfield

Stagecoach operates this service on behalf of Sainsburys. Due to operational circumstances we have advised the company acting on Sainsbury’s behalf that we will be unable to continue operating the service from 13th August.

The service may carry on but at present we are unable to clarify the position but will advise at the earliest opportunity.

236 Dundee – Claverhouse

This service is operated by Stagecoach under contract to Dundee City Council. Our contract with the city council expires on 14th August. For details of future operation please contact Dundee City Council during August when the results of their tendering will be announced.

Dundee City Council and Perth & Kinross Council school services are subject to change from the beginning of the new term in August. Please contact your local authority for details of any changes during the school holidays.

Stagecoach in Perth

23D Aberfeldy - Inveralmond

This schoolday only service will be withdrawn from the summer holidays. No other changes will affect the main 23 service between Aberfeldy and Perth.

Perth & Kinross Council school services are subject to change from the beginning of the new term in August. Please contact your local authority for details of any changes during the school holidays.

Major is one good word for them , but the some of the changes are not totally out of the blue. It looks like over 20 buses are coming out of service.

It really is a double blow for Clackmannan, since there now lost the No60 aswell. I bet many of the passenger thought at least the stagecoach bus is still running which also provide the early morning runs. I would expect the H1/H2 to be divert via Kincardine.

That X24 to the Airport will be running late at times.

A very interesting list (that I won't requote, to avoid people scrolling through again) - thanks for posting Fifescottish.

As someone who got "into" buses in 1980s Fife, there are a number of long running numbers being withdrawn here (the 57 from Kirkcaldy to Edinburgh, the 77 from Gauldry to Dundee, the 48/49 circular around Levenmouth, the 38 in Glenrothes, the X26 from Kirkcaldy to Glasgow, the 18 from Kirkcaldy to Kelty, the 34 from Kirkcaldy to Ballingray... most of which have been around for decades - albeit I think the 48/49 was temporarily something like L1/L2?).

How many other routes have survived from the 1980s? The 7, the 19, the 23, the 36, the 39, the 41, the X59, the 64, the 66, the 94 and the 95? Many of those are shrinking (the 36 not running south of Newburgh, the 41 being evening only).

Also, the end of the letter prefixes, with the end of G6/G7? That goes back to the '80s, IIRC - St Andrews/ Leven/ Kirkcaldy and Dunfermline had them (I suppose the Burntisland B1 survives, albeit not run by Fife Scottish/ Stagecoach).

Overall, that's the level of reductions that would see enthusiasts getting their pitchforks out, if it were a First Group company doing it. A lot of them are probably realistic, given the sparse populations, but still... a shame!

Stagecoach have certainly tried to deal with the decline of town centre shopping in Kirkcaldy/ Dunfermline/ Glenrothes with some innovative services (e.g. the X61 and 16/16 to serve north Kirkcaldy, the 1/2/3/4 to serve Dulloch Park, the buses to ASDA in Glenrothes) - credit to them for trying to carve out a new market.

As for the benefits of the new services... a coach every fifteen minutes from Glenrothes to Cupar? Half hourly fast services from Cupar to Dundee (i.e. no Tayport)? Three coaches an hour from Leven to Edinburgh? Through services to Glasgow Airport from the east (has anyone tried that since the days of the Citylink 500/501 from Edinburgh to Greenock/ Ayr?). Nine coaches from Ferrytoll to central Edinburgh each hour. There seems to be more money in long distance services than in trundling round housing estates or in serving places like Largoward/ Auchtertool/ Steelend.

re some of the railway arguments we've had on here - the loss of a direct bus from Stirling/ Alloa to Dunfermline may suggest that this has a weaker case for re-opening... but the improved twenty minute coach from Leven to Edinburgh may suggest a stronger case for re-opening?

(obviously all of the above depends on Council funding replacement services etc)

One of the most annoying thing has been the silly person who keeps on renumbering the services, no idea why its not benefited anyone. Also Some of theses ideas are going back 15 years. (At least 8 years ago there was an idea to have the Dalgerty bay buses operate via Camdean)

Back in 2000 48/49 was scraped and replaced by L2/L3 and L4/5 and 47 go forward two years and 48/49 were back. Around the same time the No33 was every 30mins. No38 are back to what there were.

No36 has been destroy because of Fife council No64, that now every hour, it also help destroy No36 evening and Sunday service. Again No56 between Kinross and Kelty has been destroyed because of the new X55. X51 early morning journeys were not really well timed for workers going either way.

tbtc: Note its only every 20mins a peak times between Leven and Edinburgh.

Problem is this realignment has been a long time coming because some of current routes where questionable how on earth there were still running, and I dont think were half way thought this process yet. One has to wonder if there is no less money flowing in to help cover said routes because of the loss of the school contracts. ( a few of these routes used to be interlinked)

Yes there has been a decline in people wishing to travel into town centres etc but the amount of cars flying about is still pretty clear so you have to wonder where are all these people going? Just look at Redhouse roundabout in Kirkcaldy ? just near Mitch ind estate, always busy with traffic at peak times.

As said, to be fair there have tried deal with the decline of town centre but a couple of ideas where highly questionable, maybe some one just misjudge. ;) You can't run buses empty for ever, but the real challenge is trying to correctly create new routes which will meet the demands for the public, and that is no mean feat.

There will be complaints and no doubt the odd petition or two from those passengers affected by these changes. It sounds to me that it has already been decided that these proposals will go ahead despite any feedback or consultation events which take place next week. The bottom line is, if the service is running at a loss, it cannot continue.

There does seem to be a move towards a greater focus on Express services which clearly yield the most profit. For the first time in many years there was no fare increase on Fife journeys in May which could suggest an attempt to halt dwindling passenger numbers? The depots in Fife are all pretty much running at full capacity since the closure of Cowdenbeath. (It has been suggested that Rennies are moving here and some of the service 19 will operate from Cowdenbeath?) With Dundee depot due to close this will likely impact further on Fife depots. It might be suggested that services are being shrunk to fit the space available?

As far as school contracts are concerned it would appear that Stagecoach are bidding high. There are not enough operators to freeze Stagecoach out of all Fife schools. So they are guaranteed to be awarded some schools with a high bid. Quality not quantity?

A lot of Fife Council tenders expire in August 2017 and they are currently undertaking onboard surveys on affected services to ascertain passenger demand. If Fife Council yield the axe in a cost cutting exercise, it does make you wonder what kind of local services could remain come August next year!

There are some dundee city council journeys also up for renewal, most operated by Xplore dundee for august.

I've been told by someone on the dundee area bus forum that stagecoach has bidded for the 2xx dundee city council journeys along with Xplore dundee and moffat and Williamson and apparently stagecoach has won the 204 (DCC to ninewells hospital) journeys from Xplore dundee

I can say, there area already getting complaints, whether the people have any justification is another matter. The problem is the numbers who actually use the service will no doubt be outweigh by angry ghost users, which dont help the actually passengers.

I should also say the No94 also help destroyed the 35/36, while with the No8 you would think it would have been cut back to Alloa to save a bus, since that is the busier section.

Actually Rennies has a 99 year lease so Im not sure how there could move Cowdenbeath, also Rennies has plenty of spare room, it rents out a bit of space to First for its School buses.

Why on earth are Stagecoach bidding on Dundee city council contracts when there will be no depot in the area, well there just dead run from somewhere else in Angus?

If Stagecoach, were to win some work from Dundee City Council, would Dundee depot remain open or would it still close ?

Fife council already pays for Late evening journey to operate from High Valleyfield to Alloa, plus Sunday service aswell. I get the feeling this service between this section might just get saved for another day.

Fife pay for most town service evening and Sunday services now. Presume we will see end of evening 1a etc soon. Cant see evening surviving if daytime gone!

The 1 will stay but most likely get changed since it still covers most of the daytime No87s.

No wonder the Council pays for most of the town services on the evenings; gone are the days of town centres having any decent night life, since Cinemas, bingo halls and other clubs have all moved out. Why would anyone need to travel into a Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy and especial Glenrothes town centres at night.

Its being reported, ( I know it was going to happen ) Stagecoach are organising an event on 31st July to celebrate 25 years of Stagecoach in Fife. The event will take the form of a vintage bus display and a family fun day event, centred upon Halbeath Park & Ride site, just east of Dunfermline (M90 Jct3). Three vintage bus routes will be operating to Dunfermline, Kinross and to the SVBM at Lathalmond.

I doubt the Alisa parked up at Leven Depot or the citybus at Glasgow Museum will be attending.

Back to the consultation, have found some of the local papers who have now started highlighting the stories. Just to be fair since I did the same for the FSE cuts. ;)

http://www.dunfermlinepress.com/new...rs_fight_Stagecoach_plans_to_axe_bus_service/

ANGRY residents are fighting Stagecoach over a “short-sighted and callous” proposal to axe a lifeline bus service from Saline and Steelend to Dunfermline.

The bus operator wants to withdraw service 6, claiming that fares collected “do not cover the cost of operation” and that “many of those using service 6 currently can use service 4 to reach Oakley, Carnock or Gowkhall”.

This would leave Saline and Steelend with just the Fife Council-supported service 28, which Stagecoach has admitted “would not provide the level of service that villagers would hope for”.

Residents slammed the “already inadequate” bus service and say dropping the hourly service 6 would only “make things 10 times worse”.

Linda Moyes, of Upper Kinneddar, said: “Villagers are absolutely furious at this. It's really going to affect people getting to work and college students, who won't be able to get there in time.

“Older people can't get to the doctors' for 9am just now. The 28 only runs every other hour, and if they withdraw service 6, it's going to make it even harder.

“Saline and Steelend is classed as a deprived area and people are going to be well and truly stuck if it's withdrawn.”

In 2010, the Press told you how residents fought against Stagecoach axing services which left the villages “cut off” the evenings.

In 2014, they sought to meet with Stagecoach over the service 6 timetable – and this week Linda reiterated how it continued to be hampered by timing issues.

She explained: “The first bus is at 7.33am but it misses the onward connections by the time it gets into Dunfermline.

“People are having to wait around for two hours for their return journey and if we only have service 28, it makes it even worse.

“If the timetable could be brought forward by five minutes, people would be able to make the connections.”

Full-time carer Staci Tate, 23, of Easter Craigs, said the withdrawal would also affect other villages and would “put a lot of jobs at risk”.

She said: “Kids will want to go visit their friends in other villages. I have a sister in Blairhall and it's going to be difficult for her to come to see me.

“I support a boy who's autistic. He relies on the bus and takes it everywhere – it's routine for him. This is not going to affect workers but people like him as well.”

Mid-Scotland and Fife MSP Alex Rowley called Stagecoach's proposal “short-sighted and callous”.

Mr Rowley said: “Many people who have no access to cars will be left socially and economically isolated if this service is withdrawn from these communities.

“Already I have had students tell me how much more difficult it will be for them to get to their place of study and there are workers who will find it more difficult, more costly and add to longer days.

“For pensioners, what is the point of having a bus pass if there are no buses to use it on?”

Stagecoach says discussions are ongoing with Fife Council on alternative service provision.

Douglas Robertson, Stagecoach East Scotland commercial director, said: “The changes we are proposing to make to services in the West Fife area are designed to ensure we can continue to offer the widest bus network possible for as many people as possible with the finite resources available.

“We appreciate these proposals will cause inconvenience and involve changes for some people. Unfortunately, no change is not an option.

“The reality is that we are faced with a situation where factors outside our control mean there are less passenger journeys and less money to pay the costs of running these bus services.

“Like many households, we have been forced to respond to the difficult economic conditions.

“The views of local people are also very important to us. That is why we are currently consulting with Fife Council to look at any alternative options.”

Feedback can be provided online at www.stagecoachbus.com. Consultation events are also being held on:

Tuesday, June 14: Kincardine High Street (9.30am to 11am); Saline bus turning circle (11.30am to 12.30pm); and Tesco Duloch Park bus stop area (1.30pm to 3pm)

Wednesday, June 15: Rosyth Parkgate Centre (9.30am to 10.30am); Dalgety Bay Tesco car park (11am to noon); Inverkeithing Civic Centre (1pm to 2pm); and Kelty Millennium Gardens (2.30pm to 4pm).

THE possible change of the X26 bus Kirkcaldy to Glasgow bus service will leave Auchtertool 'virtually cut-off'.

This was the statement made this week by student Abbi Gallagher, who started a petition which quickly achieved 1000 signatures.

Abbi, who goes to college in Kirkcaldy, is worried that her village will be left high and dry by any change to the X26 service.

She said: "This move is something that will affect everyone in the village.

"The village is not exactly a big place but there are still loads of people who use this service to get from Auchtertool to Kirkcaldy and then to other places from the town's bus station.

"Many people in Auchtertool use this service to get to work. The Camilla Nursing Home have workers who use this service to get to the home, what will they do now?

"The village has a lot of elderly people who do not drive and could be unable to get a bus and will not be able to visit friends."

Abbi also stressed that if children miss their school bus there is no way for them to get to school.

And she added: "Without the X26 service Auchtertool would be cut off."

The X26 is one of several services which are under review from Stagecoach after changes in subsidy from Fife Council.

These are posing concerns for people who rely on the service.

The bus company held a number of consultations earlier this week on proposed changes to

Here are the MSP, Silly bat, I bet she never travel on a bus in her life.

There are also complaints from people in the local press about the 41 Cupar to Kirkcaldy service. Stagecoach want to withdraw the daytime service but the subsidised evening and Sunday timetable will remain. They say they are in talks with Fife Council to find a solution. I don't know if the tender can be altered to save the daytime journeys at the expense of some of the later evening journeys? A few other services face a similar situation.

It does seem a bit farcical to have service running after 6pm but no service during the day!!

Again the 41 used to be interwork with school work but not now. The best solution would be to try and get short hopper service to run from Kennoway area and connect with the X27 maybe down at Boreland at certain times during the day like for workers etc

Bus to Alloa is paid for by the council on the No28 at night but it seems alot of people dont know about this either.

Maps have appeared on the Stagecoach website showing what the proposed town networks wold look like.

It would seem routes like the 1A would run at night but not during the day, this would seem a crazy situation?

I like The courier, but there being gits now if there stand by these comments.

All over Fife, Stagecoach is planning the biggest shake-up to bus services for a generation, to take effect in August and yet the communities affected have received no communications whatsoever from Stagecoach,” he claimed.

Thats load of crap, for starters, I've seen much bigger shake up then this.

The first information community councils were given was a circular issued by Fife Council last Friday afternoon, advising that a one-week programme of public consultation events would begin at 9.30am last Monday.

That not true its a two week consultation. which ends NEXT Firday.

“Stagecoach says that notices about its consultation exercise have been displayed in buses in recent days – but that is of absolutely no use to anyone who might not have been on a bus very recently, or indeed is unable to read a small notice inside a moving vehicle. “There have been no advisory letters to community councils or user groups, and no notices displayed at bus stops.

Again that is rubbish you said people still have until NEXT Friday.

“Even on Stagecoach’s own website, the details of the proposed changes are so hidden away that they are, in effect, invisible.”

Clearly that man is lazy and just lying. Its clear as day on the website, its on the main page in two section.. Even with First Scotland East cut no on was that stupid to claim anything was hidding away on its website.

He said the firm would no doubt say it was following the letter of the law but a lot of passengers would “no doubt prefer the interpretation of a local resident, who said to me yesterday that Stagecoach’s behaviour is ‘sleekit’”

To be fair there telling people about the changes in advance. Just like First bus has. First only had to talk about Muss depot changes and nothing else, but there also went public. I starting to think both Stagecoach and First changes may be WORSE case, and both companies might role back on a few of the ideas.

This is NO way insulting since I've seen many time where the changes only appear two weeks in advance and there nothing that can be done.
