Is Stagecoach experiencing a shortage of single-deck vehicles in Sheffield at the moment? Double deckers have been cropping up on a few journeys on the 10/10A lately which is certainly overkill for the number of passengers typically seen on those routes. I have also been seeing what feels like more double deckers than usual on other routes such as the 88, though that might be my imagination.
Since the MMC singles moved to Barnsley, double deckers have become more frequent on routes like the 6 & 10/10A. I could be wrong but Holbrook are waiting on 36992 and 36993 to move over from Chesterfield.
Also to note, 3 of the Yutong E12's for Rawmarsh depot have been seen at Pelican, Castleford having the mirrorless cameras fitted.

Enviro 400 MMC 11124 has been repainted & lost the X17 branding. It remains in Gold livery.

Scania Enviro 400’s 15707 & 15710 have had the EE overall wraps removed leaving them, particularly 15710 looking rather scruffy.

Does Rawmarsh depot have their EV charging stations set up yet do you know? I've noticed they've got works going on to the south side of the depot.

11124 has now regained the full X17 branding with one difference of a lower rear advert for travelling to Heights of Abraham using the X17

Seems to be a bit of an uptick in cancellations for Stagecoach in Sheffield this week. Any idea why?

Shortage of drivers as usual, Ecclesfield seem to be struggling most with cancellations on 1 & 88 quite regular. Also some of the elderly deckers at Ecclesfield are becoming more unreliable. Holbrook got the 73 plate E400MMC’s whilst Ecclesfield are still running 56/07/08 plates & the ex Manchester versions seem very tired. I was on 36457 on 83 today, a new driver being shown the route & the engine seemed down a cylinder.

Makes me wonder if some of the other golds will receive similar style adverts on the back for different places the X17 goes to
Seems a very good idea, better than buses being used for advertising car dealerships!

I wonder if the Heights of Abraham paid anything towards the cost of the advert…?

Enviro 400 MMC 11648 is back at Holbrook from loan at Manchester, on 52 today.

Service changes this weekend are seeing the 72 from Chapeltown to Manvers extended to Swinton Rail Station partially replacing withdrawn 217. The 72 will also move from Ecclesfield to Rawmarsh depot.

The 219 & 226 will resume serving Thurnscoe in evenings with 219E withdrawn. 226 will move from Rawmarsh to Barnsley depot.

The 22X & 221 will increase to hourly in the evenings & 221 will increase to every 20 minutes Monday to Saturday.

The remainder of the 43/44 in Barnsley are withdrawn replaced by extra 22a/22c journeys, 21a will no longer serve Gilroyd.

This leaves 22628 being the only MAN E300 left in Chesterfield. Truly an end of an era.
One MAN E300 operational - there are quite a few stored in the depot apparently.

Not sure they'll be missed - struggling up Hady Hill at 15MPH isn't fun.

They were certainly beasts in their prime. Times have definitely changed.

In other news, one of Rawmarsh's Yutongs has arrived at Stonegravels this morning. (I'm pretty sure it's 73001 YH24 LZS)

(Apologies for awful photographs, I saw it and in a panic just pulled up my phone's camera)

The 50/50a hasn't been a Gold branded service for some time as following customer feedback they removed the limited stop status therefore making it a normal local bus, however the Gold spec deckers did continue to appear on some trips, I imagine less so now the PVR of the X17 Gold has increased with the route extension to Wirksworth.
Oddly, Google Maps still refers to it as the 50 Gold.

The Gold spec deckers get widely used on other Chesterfield services and it's not uncommon to see non-gold vehicles on the X17. Of an evening the X17 also interworks with other services - I regularly see them on whichever version of the 90 serves Walton these days.

The YN64 gold deckers tend to be used to cover for the increasing number of 400MMC golds off the road (Or weirdly getting allocated to other routes.) The Scanias meant to be replaced by the MMCs in 2018 end up outnumbering the MMCs on the X17 these days.

Otherwise they tend to be seen on the 51 and 54/a for increased capacity.

Apologies for replying to these points so long after the original discussion, I ended up being blocked from the forum and have only just been able to regain access.

On the one hand you’re criticising us for fleet age, on the other hand you are suggesting extending fleet age by repowering. ‍♂️

The hybrids are 11-12 years old now. Repowering was considered a few years back but not now when they’re designed for a 15 year life. The world has moved on from hybrid tech to full electric.

Old buses don't have to be bad. The main issue with your E200s is that they rattle like anything when idling, and as most services are very loosely timed these days they spend a lot of time idling. They aren't comfortable to be on. Updating a power train and minor body refurbishment removes the main issues with older buses.

I'm sure hybrid will also have some niches for a while yet. Longer services where the range of an EV doesn't match the daily mileage for example, and smaller depots where full electrification isn't as easy an answer, at least in the shorter term.

As an aside, are there plans to electrify the open top buses? That would fit well with the sustainability aims of the Peak National Park and now the depot will be upgraded would be a good fit.

Wait and see what happens with the Chesterfield fleet over the next few years. I’m not going to say any more than that as it may or may not happen.
Presumably you're talking about the ZEBRA bid? While that will renew a lot of the fleet, there still seems to be a need for something to replace the Solos used on the Matlock services, and the E200s used on the Derbyshire County Council contracts plus 90. As an aside, it is a shame the 90 can't be included in the EV routes, would extending the 25 to serve Barrow Hill and altering the rest of the 90 route not be an option to avoid the low bridge? And were E100s not considered, as these appear low enough to pass under it?

Possibly getting its branding added or just been stored until the rest arrive

Are the rest even in the UK yet? If they are, I assume they'll be up at Pelican getting interiors done and electronic mirrors sorted.

Here's a picture of the branding they are to wear, provided by a facebook user. Very smart I must say.

How visible are the interesting bits from public areas? I work in Castleford and often pass one or other of the Pelican sites, but can't see much when driving. Used to see buses on test drives often but haven't of late.

What are the issues with the E400MMCs? We passed 11120 broken down at Heeley Retail Park last night but I seem to see one broken every month or so, and I'm only in Sheffield on average once a week.

Today there are only 3x MMCs on the X17 and 2 of the YX59 E400s. If the upcoming changes do mean an increase in the PVR then it's going to be even harder for them to keep the X17 all-gold.

While I am glad they are arriving now, and I may wish to ride one in July, I can't help feeling the livery colours match Arriva more than Stagecoach.

Timetables are available here.

Looks like a 4 bus service this year with a bit more recovery time. Blue is basically the Breezer extended slightly at either end, Red is a shortening of what they ran last year omitting the section to Baslow and Calver.
That's quite ambitious. It's actually 5 buses - three on the blue and two on the red - plus a sixth bus at Chatsworth between 11.40 and 16.52 presumably to provide reliefs for the other buses. Early and late journeys provide direct journeys from southern and western Sheffield to both Chatsworth and Castleton. Let's hope there is good weather and they attract decent custom.
