I have just had a flyer via the European Rail Timetable that Stanfords map shop in London is crowd funding to prevent closure. Even someone as cynical as me is thinking of donating.

I've donated (some of their rewards are worth looking at too!) - when I used to work in London I spent way too much time browsing in there after work... would be sad to see it close.

https://payitforward.london.gov.uk/support-stanfords is the fundraising link if anyone wants to take a look - they've done a nice job of setting out the history of the store and why it's so important there too.

Great shop, and I've bought lots there in the past, but sadly paper maps and guidebooks are no longer needed, even before Covid. OsmAnd+ and Google Maps fulfil my map needs. Guidebooks are bulky to carry around when travelling and you can get them online anyway.

I'm not really in a position to donate anything significant, and I've only been in the shop a couple of times (though I used their Bristol branch which opened pre-internet in the 1990s) but I'd urge anyone not financially strapped who has a regard for maps and mapmaking to consider supporting the appeal. It would be terribly sad to see it close.
