Currently onboard a GWR HST, and quite frankly the state of the train is completely unacceptable!

There's a very strong damp smell, and the plug sockets are completely covered in mould!

Looks like its a while since it overnighted at Long Rock

HSTs are usually immaculate when starting from Penzance

It started from Laira earlier today!
It's completely unacceptable, it really shouldn't be in service in this state!
The carpets are also green with mould! The interior of this train has clearly been wet!

Is there anything in the NRCoT which states the train provided, must be in a fit for purpose state?

Perhaps it was swapped in as an emergency. Better a slightly mouldy carriage than none at all !

I wonder how long its been OOU.

Do you have a vehicle number or the service details to identify which train?

Looks like they are just running them into the ground now, that is the ones that`ll be scrapped pretty soon.

Yeah there's running them into the ground, and sending out something that could be classed as a health hazard (especially if you're asmatic!)

It was the same on the WCML with the MK3 stock in the early 2000's to make to new IET's look really good for all those tourists (Asian) on the PAD-OXF fast.

The state of OC30 has been taken up internally at GWR at a very senior level as it is not the intention to put out stock like that.

As the HST sets are getting towards the end of their shopping periodicity, they won't be as good as if they have just come off classified repairs (especially the riding, which will get progressively lively) but there is little excuse to put out minging sets.

The question is, how the hell did it get like that in the first place?
To get mould on every plug socket is pretty spectacular!

I know that on R2 there are currently over 20 defects logged against set OC30 including roof leaks, all of which were logged before this thread was started.

Why tf was it sent out then?
Roof leaks doesn't surprise me!

Went on 2 HST sets today, and they were much better!
Although the second one had a slight damp aroma, but nowhere near as bad as OC30!

Mould can grow surprisingly quickly in the right conditions.
I once went to look at a second hand car for sale at a dealer. He chucked me the keys and said it had been washed inside and out after he bought it 2 days previously. The entire interior, every single surface of fabric, carpet, seatbelts and upholstery was absolutely thick with mould to the extent I didn't bother opening the doors.
It had sat in the sun with a slightly damp interior.

Because a leaky train is better than no train?

But Laira is swimming with HST trailers!
Anyway I'm sure they could have found a different set, if they tried.
If it had corrosion to that extent then clearly it isn't safe to be out, IMO!
