The original Alfreton station was closed for a half-a-dozen years as a result of Beeching cuts. When re-opened by BR, it was named Alfreton & Mansfield Parkway. The Parkway suffix (and the Mansfield bit) has subsequently been dropped.

A similar story can be told of the original Lostock Junction, which closed then re-opened as Lostock Parkway and has also dropped the suffix to become today's Lostock.

Prior to being the Station Master at Teignmouth between 1943 - 1949, Mr P G Tremethick held a similar position at Barnstaple station.

Carstairs is the station where the portions of the 'Lowland' Caledonian Sleeper join or separate. The portions of the 'Highland' Caledonian Sleeper do so at Edinburgh Waverley.

London Marylebone is the southern terminus of the Chiltern Main Line; the northern terminus is Birmingham Moor Street.
