Banavie is quite an important one in Scotland, which I don't think has been mentioned yet

I don't think Uckfield has been mentioned - it's now converted to a taxi office ( *hastily deletes comment about similarity with most other Southern stations these days...* ), but is fairly well-preserved and very close indeed to the station.

Shippea Hill on the Breckland line in Cambridgeshire has the signal box built on the ramp at the end of the platform.
This station was recently in the news as one with the least used service, or one of the least...

Just to clarify the OP's comment about Highley on the SVR. The box is opposite the platform, not on it.

Bridgnorth box is on the platform, as is one of the Bewdley boxes on the SVR, and because of their location tend to be open for visits during "behind the scenes" events on the railway.

Gillingham (Dorset) has a signal box at the end of Platform 2 but it has been reduced to ground frame status since signalling was transferred to Basingstoke in 2012.

Templecombe also has a redundant signal box, located on the disused platform. The box has been given a replica Southern Railway sign whilst the disused waiting room and footbridge have been repainted into Southern Railway colours.

Also doubled up as the booking office prior to the platform's closure.

Middlesbrough has a signal box on the platform one side on the up side of the station. Nunthorpe has one just the other side of the level crossing, which is at the end of the platforms and Glaisdale has a now disused box on one of the platforms (the one heading to Whitby)

In all fairness I didn't say that it wasn't opposite the platform :)

The rough criteria was that signal boxes had to be on a platform, opposite the station or directly adjacent to the station.

Anyway many thanks for your contribution :)

Not seen a mention of Ferryside (Wales) yet.

Or Kintbury, although it's more a single storey prefab-type building than a traditional signal box.

Don't think the following as been mentioned:
Chelmsford. Not in use I believe. It's on top of the roof form memory.

There's loads of disused signal boxes dotted around East Anglia. Chelmsford is indeed still standing above the down platform.

And then there are gate boxes such as Ingatestone and Stowmarket which are still staffed.

Southend Victoria box is still there, boarded up, despite having been abolished, but not demolished, in 1992.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Bo'ness on the Bo'ness and Kinneil preserved railway in Scotland?

Also would Dunblane count, or is the box too far away to be considered directly adjacent?

On the Cumbrian Coast line:

Wigton
Maryport
Workington - 2 boxes!
Whitehaven
St Bees
Sellafield
Millom
Barrow
Grange over Sands
Arnside

I'm sure there are others.

Half the signal boxes were removed in the rationalisation of the route about 1968. The box survives at Ravenglass where it is adjacent to the footbridge leading from the downside to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. It is, or was, open to the public.

Why does Workington need two boxes these days it are one or more of then out of use now?

Bare Lane was indeed demolished last year, with control of the crossing passing to Preston PSB (CCTV crossing).

A few more from Northern Land off the top of my head:
Dinting
Mobberley
Hale (box closed, still present)
New Mills Central is indeed still open
Romiley Junction (box closed and boarded up, still present)
Greenbank
Stockport 1 and 2

And it could be argued that Manchester Piccadilly qualifies too as the PSB is situated in one of the station tower blocks.

York. An old mechanical mid platform box building still survives as a cafe, the one accessible from the footbridge on platfrom 3, and now a Costa I think. The old 1951 PSB site was concealed up at high level above platform buildings, but was largely invisible to passengers apart from a 'lookout window' as illustrated here: http://forum.signalbox.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3291

Basingstoke has to be an unusual one as it's possibly one of the only boxes to change locations 3 times. The original LSWR / Southern & GWR signal boxes all merged into one in the 60s, That's since closed with signaling transferring to the former NSE offices next to the station, and that's all about to move up to the ROC - if it hasn't already.

The already mentioned Salisbury is a bit of a gem - one of the former boxes remains out of use and disused on the island platform, but the current open signal centre is located in the main station building.

Has anyone mentioned Marylebone yet? And of course until this decade - Reading Panel, Banbury South and North boxes.

I don't think Templecombe signal box has been mentioned yet? It's on the old platform with the buildings on that isn't used anymore. I'm not sure what its current status is but I always loved the look of it.

Edit. It had been mentioned in post 66 sorry.
