One of the 800 or 1200 would be ideal. The 250 aren't that useful in this case.Just googled that - wow what a beast !

Looks like Switch & Crossing renewal on the US with the track limits for lifting marked out.As I was out to capture the 313 farewell tour I filled the time waiting for it between legs of its journey to record some footage for another update.
I noticed some markings on the siding that services the gravel yard and the up slow either side of the A602 road bridge. If anyone can shed some light on this it would help cure my curiosity. Track panels have been moved and lots of rail delivered to site.
Agreed - I also looks like a longer geometry S&C going inLooks like Switch & Crossing renewal on the US with the track limits for lifting marked out.
Rail on the down side is probably for the new line and will be pulled in once the sleepers are laid.
I guess it makes sense to do any other upgrade work at the same time other major project require full / part closure of the lines in the area. It could be that the track modifications on the siding and up-slow have no part of the turnback project, but have been timed to coincide with events of that project.
Quite correct, S&C Renewals on the up side (aggregate siding and branch Hertford facing connection) commence this weekend with the siding crossover, nothing to do with the platform 5 works, but both projects sharing access.
How did you find that out?
I'm a engineer working on the S&C renewal project.
Are you working on that renewal this weekend ? - do you have any timings (presumably the track will be lifted in the early hours ?)
So basically the work is set for 9pm Saturday through to 10:00am Sunday.... could be a long night then - plenty of coffee and pray it doesn't rain !
13 hrs to remove old track and install a new switch - wow !
Thanks for the info
Hi malc-c
A fabulous shoot - very interesting.
Thanks for the pilgrimage!
Maybe local but it was jolly cold!No problem... I'm local so it wasn't too much of a trek - Glad you found the video interesting

Are you planning a further vigil next weekend?
Thanks MalcAs far as I know the switch (or point whatever you want to call it) was scheduled to be changed this weekend, but personal commitments and the weather means I won't be covering that.
I had heard on the grapevine that the switch on the turnback may be installed 1st - 2nd December..... All being well I'll be there for that

Popped down there this morning. Hard to see how far they have got, but it looks like the new switch is in on the up slow at Langley Junction.
In the past week there has been some developments with the turnback project as the first sleepers have been laid, so things progressing on that side too.
I also managed to video the train taking all the old ballast, cut up rails and sleepers away from the site.
