As a general rule of thumb unless it says FY23 (or one of AP1 - 13) take it as calendar year 2023.

Rather than others trying to guess, my question was for the person who posted the gen and who is in a better position to do so.

One person attending a staff presetnation, then making a post, then others guessing at it, is a perfect recipe for how misinformation gets spread.

Not every business follows the same conventions, hence my question.

Thanks so much for this update @pompeyfan, I've been very keen to hear about the progress of these. When you say bedded in, how do you mean? Will they return to Reading services with the rest of the fleet and then join Portsmouth within one year, is that what you're saying?
Surely as the 458s would have been refreshed as express train gearing and interior they would go to Portsmouth to work alongside the 444s?.

I’ve just seen reports that the first two 458s will be ready Q1 of 2023, and will then be bedded in with the whole program still expected to proceed and be in traffic within 1 year, this was on an all staff video bulletin.
Are you looking forward to working them?

Think some tables were removed when the 458s became suburban trains, so looks like the refurb as an express train will put new tables in, the 2X2 seats may stay but with new upholstery?
I'd love the current seats to be done up and kept, they're amazing!

I won’t be working them, although I hope that additional GOPs will be fitted to them for the guards that will.

In regards to the other questions, the exact quote was apparently “early 2023”. I imagine but can’t say for certain that once they’re released they’ll head to Bournemouth and then start doing crew and maintenance training

If the standard seats have armrests then these probably will be retained and upholstered with the blue SWR fabric. Also the former 442 First Class seats likely will get installed if these were removed and put in storage when the 442s got disposed of.

But FirstGroup love to throw away fantastic seats!

Testing, fettling and approvals sought based at Bournemouth. They won’t join the /5 sub fleet

Is 458534 still in service? It's the only one I need and it never seems to be out and about (when I'm in London anyway!).

Was off lease a year ago. It was mentioned in the SWR withdrawals thread, and also in this one:

Sadly, knowing FirstGroup you may possibly be right, the first class seats probably got destroyed during the scrapping. More of those same seats probably were ordered and manufactured thus wasting even more money, well, we do apparently live in a disposable world.

Or they may just reholster or deep clean the existing first class 458 seats?.

Those are the original first class seats: they got @Bletchleyite’s favourite seats as part of an alleged “upgrade” some time ago (well before 458/5 conversion).

They replaced those years ago, ironically with the same Grammer IC3000 seats used by First Great Western in standard class.
Thanks, checked and from the SWR website none of the current 458s have first class, so will need some new new first class seats or refurbished from other trains

458501-530 still have their first class seats as discussed above, just they’re declassified.

Looking good. It's probably the lighting but the yellow looks noticeably... "warmer"(?) on that unit.

I think that's got to be down to the lighting, I do agree that it looks brighter than it would on an average day.

To be honest, I had to look twice as it looked more like a 380 than a 458 to begin with!

It looks rather like a 450, if only for the long oval windows in the doors, and less so but still notably the rounded edges of the windows elsewhere. I cannot wait to see the interior.

I'm not entirely convinced by the 'wraparound' bit of yellow - I get that it's trying to mimic a 450 but I'd have personally used the 'blades' as the transition from blue to yellow

That strip of blue at the bottom of the front is bizarre, especially with how the light cluster overlaps it. Why not just extend the yellow all the way to the bottom?
