The OP had 455913 stored out of use. (That's the one with the ex-class 210 trailer). Evidently it's been reinstated as RTT shows it, as I write, about to leave Guildford as 2D44 for Waterloo

455913 is a very active and working unit. These problems with the trailer were solved some time ago

I didn't know that it was the trailer that had caused it to be stored. 455s have been known to run as 3-car, without the trailer.

The reason it had an ex 210 trailer was because the original trailer had been used for trials with plug doors, which involved widening the door openings. It was cheaper to adapt a spare class 210 trailer than rebuild the original trailer back to standard.

5912 is the unit with an ex class 457 driving motor coach (originally a class 210 driving trailer), converted to a non-driving motor to replace the vehicle damaged in the Oxshott concrete mixer incident.

Platform 5 edition of the BR pocket book EMU says
67301 and 67400 were converted from class 210 DEMU vehicles to peplace accident damaged cars. Both built in 1981 (whole 455/9 subclass built in 1985). 67400 as a trailer in 455912, 67301 as a motor coach in 455913.
PS: all 455/7 units have trailers off class 508 (numbered 715**)))))

That's thye wrong way round. 5912 has an ex-210 trailer after the plug door trials. 5913 was the Oxshott cement mixer accident damaged unit and has an ex-210 driving trailer converted to a motor coach.

Mea culpa. It was of course unlucky 13 that had the concrete mixer fall on it. But it's since had problems with its trailer vehicle? (Which sustained relatively minor damage in the crash - one of the driving trailers sustained considerably more but was repairable).

5913 was stopped in July 2021 for corrosion issues on the 3 unpowered cars. It was then robbed heavily and was out of service until May 2022.

5721’s DTS B is due back imminently, the DTS B of 5901 will be making the opposite journey.

There's a whole 4 pairs of 455s in use on Reading services today, with the remainder being 2 pairs of 450s and one pair of 458/5s. Previously it's been a maximum 2 pairs on Saturdays.

And what will make up the other sets given that 455s can no longer do Windsor or Weybridge via Chertsey without being 4 car?
majority are 8-450s. don't ask me where from but there's been a re-shuffle somewhere as the 1739 guildford via epsom is now 8-455 vice 8-450.

There is a designated thread called Class 455/458 ongoing maintenance updates for this sort of thing, to keep this one free for when units are stood down or sent off lease
:)

Mod note: thread can be found here:

Although in the case of 5913 mentioned in the post you’ve commented on the unit was stood down for nearly a year as opposed to being on maintenance so doesn’t really fit into either the maintenance or permanent withdrawal threads!
