Last Salisbury-Corfe trains on SWR MixingDeck and RTT is 9/6/2018, thereafter until 8/9/2018 Swanage-Wareham West Coast Rly. shuttles are showing in RTT (as mentioned up-thread). So is the SWR service going to running after 9/6/2018?

Thanks!

That is a bit odd as the press releases have all been about the great partnership working between swanage and swr.

The 2nd year of the trial was postponed because swanage hiring in WCRC wasn't financially viable, so not sure what's happening.

Perhaps Swanage Railway should get in ThamesLink as consultants to help sort out the mess.

Govia TL would sell you a ticket for the train knowing that it doesn’t exist! So kudos to SWR for not selling tickets. Probably means the trains will run. Albeit m/t

Well, someone obviously messed up the data itself.

As pompey says, Southampton then upto Eastleigh would the best places. Southampton maritime is one of the top 3 uk ports so lots of containers and 66s ..and a 08 shunter .... Eastleigh is a bit more varied as also a base for network rail.
Many thanks at all for your advices.
I went to both Hamworthy and Southampton. Obviously I didn't find the freight train in Hamworthy towards Poole harbour, but while I was watching the rusted track I thought that trains aren't common over there. In Southampton and surroundigns I saw, in addiction to Class66, a Class59 and a test train (I think it was a test train!) hauled by Class73 in double symmetrical traction.

Yes. Was loaded last night. I’m at Waterloo now and they could sell the ticket for tomorrow only. No other weekends yet loaded...

The first shuttle in and the last out were very well filled today (at least between Wareham and Corfe). On the way back I bailed at Wareham to take the more direct train back to London but was surprised at how high a proportion of passengers stayed on the train to go to Weymouth, Yeovil, Salisbury or ultimately Waterloo (some 90 minutes or so later than me.)

Saturday 23 June will not run due to RMT strike.
Overheard a Swanage member of staff today confirming this.

It's on the swr website.

Trains/tickets now loaded in the system through to 25th August. At a ticket office you may need to spell Corfe; it's not "K" it's "C".

Like many, I can't get to Basingstoke for the start, I'm joining at Dorchester West, but am doing the full journey to Waterloo on the return. Can't wait!

With the strikes now cancelled, have SWR reinstated this saturdays trip to Corfe Kastle?

I’ve looked at this Saturday on SWR website and says no fares available, following weekends are all showing.

Hope it hasn’t sold out as was thinking to travel this Saturday with the good weather.

Not sure it "sells out" as such, I travelled on it a couple of weeks ago and was able to buy a ticket at the station just prior to travelling without any issue and there weren't seat reservations on it or anything. It was a good trip. The ticket office wasn't able to issue a through ticket though (which might be the problem you are having), I was issued with a ticket to Wareham and another for the Wareham to Corfe Castle leg.

Glad to hear it is busy though, bodes well for a future regular service I hope.

No issues when I input Salisbury to Corfe Castle on Saturday. Remember not every station will have tickets available to Corfe Castle so you might have to split.

The 159s don't have seat reservations

23 June services were previously cancelled due to the RMT strike action [see post up-thread]. Train is now back in the system and bookable as the strike has been postponed.

Service very busy at the southern end today 30 June. Many, many people at stations taking photos! Very slick ticket issuing for the Swanage Railway onboard; £10 for a return trip. Couldn’t resist as greyhound 120 providing the steam service today :) what a glorious engine. Will be 120 years old next year won’t it?

Bigger window of opportunity than Windermere so come on down and soak up the fun.

Edit to add traction change and nostalgia:

Well the euphoria died somewhat as the stock was taken out of service at Salisbury so no direct run into Waterloo despite getting a photo of the finger board on the platform at Corfe promising Waterloo. A replacement set was waiting for us at Salisbury which kept the timetable and no wheezing sound effects and functioning AC.

Memories of a rail tour in that neck of the woods prompted me to search and remind myself I was on the Royal Wessex in 1976 which followed some of the route of todays service :)

On Sat 7 July I and 3 others travelled from the Norh Devon line on the 0705 from Barnstaple, changing at Exeter Central, to Yeovil Jn to join the recently introduced SWR through train at 0940 (0722 from Basingstoke) to Corfe Castle on the Swanage Railway. We returned on the 1545 Corfe Castle to Waterloo alighting at Yeovil Jn for train to Exeter Central/North Devon.

It was noted that the 0722 Basingstoke was sensibly formed of a 2 car cl 158 portion for Weymouth and a 3 car cl 159 portion for Corfe Castle, and this proved ideal for the passenger traffic on offer, being principally those heading for the Swanage Railway or Weymouth.

Full credit must be given to those, not least Senior SWR Management, who will have worked hard behind the scenes to introduce this increasingly popular service with excellent punctuality, train cleanliness, welcoming, efficient staff throughout and fully functioning train air conditioning on another exceptionally hot day this Summer.

The icing on the cake was to experience a ride behind the National Railway Museum's legendary 1899 built T9 loco 30120 hauling 5 former BR Mark I coaches resplendant in Southern Green, on a well cared for and heavily volunteered run line that has made tremendous achievements since its closure in 1972 and its very hasty shortsighted dismantling soon afterwards.

'Where there's a will there's a way' as they say; something long overdue in provision of some through trains from Taunton to Bishops Lydiard for the West Somerset Railway; a Railway that is scratching its head, with realisation of its challenges ahead and the need to increase its business.

We used to dream of fully functioning air conditioning going down to Corfe on hot summer days!

Couldn't agree more re WSR. The local MP should follow the lead of Tim Farron perhaps?

A shame that this service will not run now on most of its remaining scheduled dates, due to the strike.

Will it be running on 25th August? The schedule seems not to be loaded and tickets are not available on SWR's website.

I took the middle service to corfe and it was about 30% filled, then the final service to Wareham which was completely packed with standees, much like the 1731 EDB-KGX that I am on at the moment. (Yes I went to Edinburgh and back the day after going to Dorset)

Well if you live in London then I guess that is a breeze really. Now if you live in Penzance then that would be an epic two days
