So Talgo have confirmed their new site for rolling stock manufacture will be in Fife, Scotland. And an additional innovation centre in Chesterfield.

Seems a big gamble for a company with no UK experience and they've chosen areas with no railway history so they may struggle to attract the engineering talent they will need.

Will it succeed?

Why is there no qualifier (“Derbyshire, England”) required after Chesterfield? Are there people in the UK - of which Scotland is, we are being constantly reminded by Unionists, is an integral part - who don’t know where Fife is?

for the innovation centre at least,it seems like they want to poach some people from bombardier.

FWIW i would rather have a company building the units here than being shipped over from wherever.Keeps our engineering/manufacturing skills up, not to mention the spin-offs from bearing moulders to baristas in gainful employment.
as for talgo not having much experience...well ok...maybe give them a small order for 153 replacements(if the price is right and the quality is ok),see how they get on and then consider the follow on for the 15x's after that.

I haven't a clue where Fife is with any accuracy and wouldn't know where the other counties in Scotland are either (do they have 'counties'?) -and get this, I've been there more than once, I now discover! I would imagine this would be the same for most English people.

So Longannet and Chesterfield were the shortlisted finalists, and Talgo decided to do both. Sounds like they did an "Amazon". The US based mail order business - after a much hyped search for a "second" headquarters - also ended up picking two cities for new offices.

And I haven't a clue where Chesterfield is and couldn't name or place most counties in England, whats you're point?

I can't remember how long exactly but The Inglish have been in Britain for quite a few Hundred years & have successfully killed many 000's of Britons who attempted to oppose their colonisation - so no surprise they don't know where Fife is o_O

Longannet is a great location. The plan is to covert the old coal power plant. It's right on the river forth so materials can be bought in and out via the sea but more importantly the powr plant is right on a working railway line which never gets used anymore which will easily connect with Edinburgh or Glasgow.

You can tell from the timings that this place will never get built unless they somehow won HS2.

But if they did, where are all the railway engineers going to come from? Bit far flung for the existing skills base to relocate to.

And what are they going to build there ? There’s going to be too many factories for just the UK market.
