It is the simpering female safety announcement on the 390's that I truly hate .....

That and the VCB , the over loud chimes , the rattling interiors ......

The on-train announcer on the FGW 180s and the original FNW 175 announcer is good, anyone know who she is and does she do any other train ore station announcements? I'm sure I once heard her on a Pendolino saying either Wolverhampton or Dudley. Not sure why ATW decided to have someone else re-record the 175 announcements.

If passing back from Crewe I generally sit with my fingers in my ears until my train comes(one day I'll miss the platform change from 11 to 6!!) as the bloke who speaks through his nose is almost impossible to understand, and the 3 year old with the very soft girly voice is absolutely grate-ing!! <D

Who is it that interviews these people and thinks I've a great job for you, lets put you on the tannoy???

By the way hi, I'm Steve.

I have actually missed a platform alteration when it was the very quiet one, from 3 to 6 for the London Euston via Stoke service. The platform staff stuck me on the next London train out, which was a Virgin service, explaining to the staff on my behalf why I was travelling on a LM 1st Advance. I decided I was quite happy with that deal, as I got a free breakfast and managed to arrive at my final destination, Castle Bar Park, almost ninety minutes before I would have expected to on the LM stopper.

Who does the announcements on the Victoria Line? She says something along the lines of 'The next station is Green Park. Doors will open on the right hand side. Change for Jubilee and Piccadilly Lines'. I like her, and I think she blends in with the 2009 stock quite well!

Something that really, really irritates me is at both Bristol Parkway and Filton Abbey Wood, where both Anne and Rodger maintain a presence at seperate platforms in the stations and announce services at the same time. It is highly confusing. I think it would be easier if Anne was at all stations, announcing trains at all platforms.

I absolute hate the way Rodger pronounces Weston-super-Mare, Didcot Parkway and Cheltenham. It goes through me!

If the huge London terminals and other stations such as Manchester Piccadilly and Leeds can have just one announcement covering at least 15 platforms, then there is no reason why Bristol Parkway and Filton Abbey Wood, which have just THREE platforms each, need two seperate announcers. It is particularly difficult to listen when Rodger is harping on about a Manchester Piccadilly service and when Anne is talking about a Plymouth or Cardiff service!

The woman on the Jubilee Line has an interesting voice too! I also like the woman on the 185s.

And who does the announcements on the Metrolink too?

I find JB's voice really quite soothing, speaking for myself. I would really like it though if Phil Sayer voiced all the stations just for a sense of uniformity, because I LOATHE the announcer at all the other London termini-King's X, Charing X, Euston, Paddington etc. Or, on a completely different tangent, I would really like Stephen Dry doing all the voices-though he'd probably send everyone to sleep!

Having male/female voice on separate platforms is a good idea, surely having two platforms with the same voice would be alot more confusing?

Not sure that's particularly necessary. The same voice saying "...arriving on Platform 1" and "...arriving on Platform 2" shouldn't be a problem, if you know your numbers. Regardless, different voices would be useless anyone for those not familiar with the station.

I think what he means is if they do need to talk at once. When you get to the stage where you have so many trains coming through that doing all announcements for the entire station linearly would be impossible, sooner or later at some point in the station you're going to have to be hearing two at once. Making them different voices helps you to distinguish between them.

I can understand how announcers' idiosyncrasies can annoy if you are regularly travelling the same route.
But as an occasional rail traveller I hang on every word and I am grateful when the message is loudly, clearly and fairly slowly spoken.

I love the male voice on the Jubilee line who does the "All change please this train terminates here". He sounds like he'd be a laugh to have a drink with! Also as mentioned, the female voice used on London buses is very clear and also I get the strange impression that she is smiling or at least happy to take you to places, even if it is "25. to. Ilford". I doubt shes ever been there, and who can blame her! ^_^

I think that to help passengers each train should have its destinations voiced in the appropriate regional accent.

So any train to Plymouth needs to have its destinations read out by a Janner, any train to Glasgow by a Taggart soundalike.

There is a guard who does the last Paddington-Worcester train as far as Oxford who is perhaps the most enthusiastic guard I've ever heard.

I like this idea.... can you imagine....

GLASGOW CENTRAL: "We are noo arriving at Glasgow Central. If yer have onward connections from the Low Level station, keep ya ticket as ya cannae get doon wi'out it".

NEWCASTLE: "Y'alreet ladies and gentleman, we're just coming into the toon. If you're leaving wor here, gan canny and thank you for travelling Cross Country".

MANCHESTER PICCADILLY: "Hee' ahhh, we're now approaching Manchestaaar Piccadillay where this train terminates. Thanks for travelling on Cross Country Trains, I hope your journey's been sound. Nice one".

SHEFFIELD: "Nar then, we're nar arriving at Sheffield. Tek care when leaving t' train and stepping onto t' platform. We hope you've had a reet good journey wi' us".

WOLVERHAMPTON:
"Yaw alroite. We're now arriving at Wolverhampton. If yaw are leaving us here, it's been bostin' having yaw on board Cross Country Trains. Ta-ra for a bit".

BRISTOL TEMPLE MEADS: "Y'alroite my luvverrrrrs. We be soon coming into Brizzle Temple Meads. Change here for services to Barrrrth, Weston-Super-Marrrre and Severrrrrn Beach".

And each station name in the "Calling at" list should be in the appropriate accent, too
