For the first time I think I saw a 43 clag properly-a rare sight. When idle there was a suspicious amount of blue exhaust coming out. When it started moving, it turned light brown and became even more profuse! Made me cough :(

Nah, it's 43102 on yesterdays Highland Chieftain. I've NEVER seen an HST do that before!

Wow! It appears that there are a few of these mad GNER 43s! Any similar performances from MML or FGW?

I reported such an instance with 43003 in Swansea a couple of days ago. 43144, another FGW 43, used to thunder out thick clag quite a lot, but it has been cleaned since, producing far less clag but still a good performance. All of the FGW 43s (bar the VP185s and MTUs) prove to have a good clag now and again, it depends on the driver, maintenance and other factors.
