Looks good, but I won't be on it. Something for those who have lost out on some railtours due to locos not being available or pathing problems

Bit of rare track for those who book on it. I can't remember the last time a passenger train of any description used the Joan Croft curve.

Massive...allox 1KIP!

It should be formed of the 'other' (more high profile but less talked about) rake from The Palace of Engineering. That'll keep the heads in windows...

15/07/08 - "The Meridian Mariner" 16th August 2008

In light of the recent rumours that Stobart Railtours are ceasing to trade, we take this opportunity to assure our customers that the Meridian Mariner tour WILL run as we have advertised. The tour will operate with DRS acting as TOC, with their rolling stock and Spitfire Railtours acting as sole promoter. Our thanks go to DRS who have agreed to continue to run this tour with us.

What... No Flailing!!!  I won't be going on there Railtours then!!
Brandon

No, after the Spitfire tour to Paignton on June 21st there was a complaint to West Coast from NR or summat (full story was on wnxx but just went into froth asd normal) and now flailing will mean bans for people if caught.

Some drunk tw@t was flailing infront of trains coming towards him, and was being, well, drunk.

Always one :roll::roll:

Why not? Why should the downright dangerous activity (especially when intoxicated!!) put you off doing a railtour?! I have nothing against standing near a window, and looking out- but imho, some 'flailing' is a fools game. It would be terrible for mk1s to be banned, or at the very least have bars put on the windows- but this is what Network Rail have warned tour operators/ stock providers- if this carries on. You are only young- and seem to have been influenced by the likes of the people who have recently given us all a bad name......

If you want to go on a railtours- go on it to enjoy the thrash by all means- but you don't want a) you head / arm chopped off- I have heard of at least one tour being caped due to a basher breaking his arm flailing.
b) You don't want NR insisting on fitting window bars / banning mk1 stock - which they have threatend to do- and could quite easily do if they deem people are putting themsleves in danger.

I really don't mean to sound stuffy, and I know that most of us will have put their arm out of a train window at some point- but as mentioned in earlier posts- a couple of 'bad apples' spoils it for everyone, thus, anyone caught flailing nowadays will be tarred with the same brush.

But usually more

Weren't there some bod in a old hi-vi or sommat messing about?

Oh god, he was WEIRD..... I don't know if he was flailing as well, but it wouldn't surprise me at all. He was mentally imbalanced. Later on in the day, he started kicking off with one of the stewards- something to do with not getting a value for money day out or something(!?) I can't say I've ever seen him before on tours- but coincidentally I had the unfortunate pleasure of spotting him again, in the same hi-viz, complete with teddy bear- at Bury, on the ELR diesel gala.

...And i thought Spitfire were the cheapest player in the game? God help him if he does any more expensive tours!

Metrocammel is absolutely right about flailing on tours - the days of behaving like a moronic idiot waving your arms about are gone, unless you want window bars. For those who think Network Rail aren't really bothered, I can assure you they are - an e-mail went out from a senior manager to the major players in the charter train market about the behaviour on trains last month.

I am old enough to remember the early 90s when we had not only the window bars but also pins in the quarterlights to prevent them being opened by about more than six inches. It isn't something I want us to go back to. If anyone really does feel a compulsion to flail out of a window, I suggest you stay at home, open the one in your bedroom and put on some loud loco recordings....
