Just wanted to mention about this trip on the Weardale railway I took with the relatives kids this past christmas.

It was fantastic, they sang the songs came down the aisles with the hot chocolate and even tried their best to do the ticket punching thing that Hanks did in the film.

If they do anymore on a heritage near you then give that a whirl with the kids instead of the Thomas the Tank engines thing that go on. The kids loved it

That sounds fantastic. It's wonderful to hear that a preserved railway has decided to go for a "different take" on their Festive/New Year specials. It really sounds like the Weardale Railway has put all of their collective efforts into this - I think that the missus and myself would quite enjoy it ourselves, without any kids!

I read somewhere BARS who operate the Weardale and on the mainline under the company D&CR have the sole rights to the Polar Express concept.

At £20 a ticket second class and £35 first class it is a bit expensive particularly with diesel haulage. The children only get a small bell as a present.
The heritage railway near me charges £10 a ticket for a steam hauled journey . The children get a quality present.

£20, including a free gift for the kid, hot chocolate, and cookie, a chance to visit santa for the kids, and an hours trip in a nice ETH warmed MK2. Doesn't sound that expensive to me.

Compared with £10 per person for a steam hauled "Santa's Special" train journey of nearly an hour. During the journey adults given a glass of hot mulled wine and a mince pie and children given fruit juice and a biscuit. Includes a visit to Santa and the child given a quality present.

Sorry- I will stick to traditional Santa Specials or Day out with Thomas which give better value for money with STEAM haulage.

I'm not sure it matters what stock was used, what pie was available and what present the child got. What matters is that by all accounts, it was a roaring success.

Same company, Just the parents who 'lease' the rights to the 'Polar Express' branding in the same way that Hornby does with Harry Potter & Hit Entertainment's Thomas the Tank Engine - It's Iwoa Pacfic, who also operate the same set up in the US, expect of course over there they can use a Caboose (as in the film - Nope, not seen it!)

Spot on and they had the chance to pass the north pole and santa who them came on the train to give them the present(bell) which they so remembered from the film.

The look on all the bairns faces was worth the 20 notes alone.

As a boy who loves Christmas this was amazing and beats anysanta steam special. They re-enacted as much as they could.

Amazing
