That was unexpected!

Continuing north, we await 1S27, LNER's 2100 service towards Edinburgh, from which we alight at Dunbar at 2140 on Wednesday.

Looks like the best option at this time of the evening is to take the following service, the 2150 Cross Country service to Edinburgh Waverley arriving at 2213 on Wednesday.

Well I suppose we will have to won't we...

We walk over to the Railway Station (4 min, 0.2 mile) and board the 1041 Scotrail service to Thurso arriving at 1424 on Thursday.

We next board the 1632 Scotrail service 2H64 to Dingwall, arriving there at 1941 on Thursday evening.

Didn't realise how long the return service would be, Thurso to Wick is quite some distance!

Leaving the station, we take the three minute walk along Station Road to the bus stop where we next board the 2045 Hunter C&M 25A service to Charleston (Layby on the A9) that arrives there at 2104 on Thursday evening.

Thanks Paul, however I'm still struggling to find a 25A service operated by this company and at that time. I can see a departure at 1945 and 2145 operated by Stagecoach? Sorry, just can't find anywhere called Charleston on Bus Times!
I use a journey planner that has nationwide coverage and it was from the information supplied on that planner that I made my posting.

Since returning to this quiz, this is the very first time that someone has queried what that journey planner has said.

Bustimes shows the 25A times as changing tomorrow, so a forward look on there will show the impending timetable. However, Stagecoach's own website does show a 2045 journey, but operated by them, on a timetable compilation called "Easter Ross 27 Sept Temporary Version". Therefore I think the current (i.e. perhaps ending today) timetable, and as publicised by Stagecoach, has it as a permissible journey, albeit with a change of operator.

Therefore my view is that we proceed as having arrived at Charleston layby at 2104 on Thursday.

We take our life in our hands and cross the A9 dual carriageway, but have 18 minutes to do so, so should find a gap in the traffic at some point in that time. We then board Stagecoach Highlands service 26 at 2122, alighting at Cromarty (Victoria Hall) at 2213 on Thursday.

Not to worry, we've since found where we are!

On the assumption that the same bus returns on a new journey, we then board the 2215 Stagecoach Highlands service 26A to Inverness Stagecoach Depot, arriving there at 2310 on Thursday evening.

As it is post 23.00hrs we will take advantage of the overnight rule.

We can return in the morning and cross the road to the stop at Seafield Road, and board the 07.00 D&E Coaches service 424 to Rosemarkie, Spar Shop arriving at 0830 on Friday morning.
