Channel 5 at 8pm:
The World's Most Scenic Railway Journeys
through Canada's iconic Rocky Mountaineer train in a jaw-dropping loop from Vancouver to the heart of the Rockies, through some of North America's most staggering natural beauty, and on to Banff in Alberta. The journey also ventures through the spiral tunnels and shows how to track bears with the National Park rangers.
Is it a repeat?

Location
St Albans
Having done the Vancouver to Banff trip this year it was interesting to see the train from the outside at various locations. The overnight work at Kamloops was interesting, we knew that the train was split into Jasper and Banff sections and cleaned both inside and out, but of course there were also any repairs that had cropped up during the day's running. Those trains do work hard, - running 4 x 11 hours per return trip and two runs per week. They might only average about 30mph, but the relentless climbing must tax the locos.

It will be the Cambrian Line on Friday 15 November 2019:>https://www.channel5.com/show/worlds-most-scenic-railway-journeys/
Two minutes in and "Puffeli". Very disappointing, there are no "f"s in Pwllheli - he didn't even try to pronounce it. Then, 20 seconds later he mispronounces Caersws as "Caresus". Has he ever wondered why the "a" and the "e" are the other way round...? And of course for good measure, Sh"row"sbury - ahh the shrews...

Apart from that, it was a good watch :)

According to this programme, you can take the Welsh Highland Railway from Porthmadog to Rhyd Ddu and then the Snowdon Mountain Railway! Why did they not tell the truth and say that you could hike up Snowdon from Rhyd Ddu? (Snowdon Mountain Railway goes from Llanberis).

I note that the 158’s were all going around in summer weather with the 4 small windows open = failed air conditioning. I also note that the Barmouth bridge was looking decidedly rusty - neglect by Network Rail? How could they have missed filming the classic view looking up the Mawddach estuary with the train on Barmouth bridge and Cader Idris behind? (They filmed the bridge looking seaward and described it as crossing a river rather than the more correct ‘estuary’).

How could they have missed out the famous Talerddig Cutting - where the line traverses the watershed between the Dovey and Severn river systems? I would also have thought that Powis Castle at Welshpool would have got a mention. (They could have cut out the bit about the poet at Caersws). All in all, though, an excellent programme. If this is shown around the world, I think we can expect many more passengers on this line; just hope that Transport for Wales can provide enough rolling stock with working air-con!

The village of Talerddig lies halfway along the Newtown & Machynlleth Railway in Powys, where its single track passes through a long cutting high above sea level. The cutting was the world’s deepest when completed and remains one of the deepest on British railways. Stone excavated during its construction was used to build many of the masonry structures along the railway line.
