The worlds oldest person turns 119.

Born on 2 January 1903, the current verified oldest person in the world, Japanese woman Kane Tanaka, has today become only the third person in modern history verified as having reached the age of 119. She had already been verified as the third oldest ever person in September 2020, behind only American Sarah Knauss (119) and Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment (122). She will overtake Sarah Knauss as the second verified oldest ever person if she is alive on April 10th.

I was going to write that she might even remember the defeat of Imperial Russia in 1905, but I suspect she'd need to be a year or so older to acheive that. Some going though! Is she compis mentis, do we know?

The death of Kane Tanaka was annouced today. She passed away last Tuesday, April 19th, at 119 and 107 days, so she did overtake Sarah Knauss as the verified second oldest ever person by ten days. Jeanne Calment remains the only person verified as having reached the age of 120.

The verified worlds oldest living person is now Lucile Randon of France, born 11 February 1904.

Thanks, time for an update, Lucile Randon has passed away this week. The new worlds oldest person is now believed to be 115 year old Maria Branyas Morera, born March 4th 1907 in San Francisco and now living in Spain.
