Which tickets are valid on Gatwick Express?

Tickets which the National Routeing Guide indicates that London Victoria - Gatwick Airport forms part of a permitted route between the origin and the destination, and which are not excluded because of a restriction printed on the ticket, eg. NOT GATWICK EXP.

See NCoC. I can't easily quote from a PDF now, but it basically says something like if you are restricted to or prohibited from using a particular company's trains it will state it on the ticket. It appears under Route.

So Route Not Gatwick Express, Route FCC Only, would NOT be valid on Gatwick Express.

Anything marked Any Permitted, or routed through a station where Gatwick Express forms part of a valid route (e.g. Route Horsham) is, of course, valid.

Gatwick Express used to be a normal franchise like any other, it is not a private operation like Heathrow Express. It is now part of the Southern franchise. The website even says it is operated by Southern.

In addition to what others have said any ticket bought with a Network Railcard or a Gold Card is not valid on the Gatwick Express.
