Watching an old top gear on dave ja vu this afternoon, and the STIARPC was Slash, the challenge was to do motor racing cheaper than golf and then at the end Slash finished the show with his version of the top gear theme tune.

I was also watching recently the episode where they took over a drive time radio show.

Laughed myself silly at that

Can't wait for the rest of the series, something decent on TV for a change (especially now E4 have taken the new series of The Big Bang Theory off...).

Yeah it looks like we're in for a good one. Plenty of road trips and crazy challenges by the looks of things.

Loved Clarksons piece. I want one of them cars!

My only disapointment realy was the Stigism, that wasn't realy that good

It felt to me like it was an 'emergency' Stigism. Almost like at the last minute the top brass decided the original was too naughty and they had to bin it.

Probably. Maybe he had something about Tesco which was too tounge in cheek to be aired.

I mean its not like there isn't anything in the media at the moment to use. Tesco, EU referendum, HMV & Blockbuster, Gangnam Style.

So it has to be some emergency one. Thank you Auntie Beeb :s

The Big Bang Theory Season 6 on E4 is being shown in two parts so as to keep the date separation between the US broadcast and the UK broadcast the same. The date separation between original US broadcast and E4 is most likely down to licensing and how much E4 were willing to pay.

The US broadcast of the season has had gaps for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and most importantly, further gaps to ensure the season ends during a ratings 'sweeps' period. So with a September start the broadcast of the 24 episodes in the season, with all those gaps, ends in May. During the run of episodes you'll often find that the more exciting storylines and plot development (occasionally 'to be continued.... episodes) coincide with other 'sweeps' periods in November and February. As audience figures from the 'sweeps' determine advertising rates for the next period it is important that broadcasters have their best shows, and the best episodes of those shows, on during 'sweeps'.

But, there are other ways to watch the latest episodes in the UK and not wait for the date separation scheduling. I'm up to date and just waiting for Episode 14 tomorrow. Be another 6 weeks before that's on E4.

the negativity above of Siarpc, I rather enjoyed Sundays with them in the snow, which also suggests it was recently filmed. and whitely is no longer the slowest celeb!

Star in the Car is usually filmed on the morning of the main studio filming (ie Wednesday before Transmission)

That Aston last night has to be the most beautiful car I've seen!

Could see the penis part coming a mile off but it was still hilarious

Broadcasters and networks have many interests to keep things as they are, especially the networks that sell channel packages to the public and never want to lose that additional revenue for channels people wouldn't take otherwise.

I do, however, hope that one day we're going to see more on-demand style services giving us what we want, when we want it - and doing away with the traditional timetabled broadcast times (well, besides being able to make you wait for the time you can download/stream it). Every viewing will be trackable, even how much you watch (and what you might skip) and will do away with ratings in their current form.

Just like the railway though, there will be many people fighting any changes, but I think the way shows are manipulated in the US (and to a degree here as a result) spoils a lot of shows.. and inserts large gaps that wouldn't occur here.

That might produce some curious results, such as the BBC re-releasing the highlights of pre-1996 Grands Prix and suchlike, almost as though everyone had opened up their video collections to the general public.

As for Top Gear itself. If taken with a large pinch of salt, it can be watchable. I still wouldn't rate it alongside the 20th Century version, but it sometimes produces some interest. But it can also be patantly ridiculous, as with the P45 recently (although I didn't mind them playing conkers with caravans, though, at least that was entertaining).

I agree, the SIARPC section has gone down hill slightly. It got realy good when they were getting top people on it - the likes of Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz, Jeoff Goldblum and so on. Then it went down hill again.

Maybe we've been spoiled by the fact that they've had these top guests on, no anybody else seems a bit lowbrow? Either way, to re-juvinate the segment they need some top people on it again.

Personally I usually vacate the sofa regardless of who it is, as after all, IT'S A CAR PROGRAMME NOT A DAMN CHAT SHOW!!!

TG in general has definitely gone a bit downhill lately, but this new series seems a lot better than some of their last stuff.

Me too, in general (except when they have a racing driver on) although I do return when I hear engines running. It is a form of motorsport after all.

So last week was another Car vs Public Transport Race from Wembley to Milan

JC in a Fort Mustang.
JM and RH on a Eurostar + TGV

I've waited a week to post this so anyone who didn't want to see can avoid, but just in case if you don't want to know the result look away now

This time Public Transport won (last time they did one in Japan the car won by 30 seconds!)

*END Spoiler*

I think it has run its course. Yes I like the chemistry between the 3 of them and some of the photography is stunning, but the stars in...cars interview piece is cringeworthy at times and the format is now very repetitive.

That's pretty much my opinion. It's had its day and should be cancelled whilst memories of the show are still good

And if it weren't for the slow run through the Alps it would have won by quite a margin.

Don't know if anyone else has noticed, but compared to the live show which aired on TV, the show which is now available on the iPlayer has been edited to cut out the sequences showing Jeremy with the Fifty Shades of Grey audio book...

Top Gear has had it's day and run it's course, same old thing, series after series. Very predictable and has lost it's magic.Having said that this series so far is better than the last two.
JC being embarrasing and cringeworthy with some of his comments is a little tiresome and not funny anymore.

This series should be the last IMO.

The show dosen't go out live, it is recorded on Wednesday and transmitted on Sunday. I know what you are saying though.

Stress on the 'apparently' (didn't we have a whole thread on that). Also, interesting to see that the car didn't win for once, but I think it's a case of choosing your battlefields.

I know the routes are chosen to try and give both car and PT an equal chance. Theoretically if all went to plan they would arrive together. They film the exterior car shots on the way back to the UK (with stock footage for the PT option)

Who caught last Sundays episode then?

One of the best yet!

It featured a rather entertaining road test of the new Kia C-Apostrophe-D featuring Matt LeBlanc, Eric Clapton and Detective John Mclain (Bruce Willis). The test ended with a quite brilliant game of car rugby.

Lewis Hamilton was the SIARPC aiming to better Sebastian Vetels time, and well you all probably know by know (because it was all over the papers) but the fans will be pleased to hear he completley smashed it with a 1:42:09, the fastest ever!

The 'Stigism' was good too, its the first proper one we've had this series but it was certainly worth the wait!
