Yes, but not the series I was in.

I just realised from looking on Wikipedia that it actually started before the new Top Gear, so in many ways the BBC ripped Driven off for the new format - but did a much better job than both Driven and Fifth Gear.

Driven was excellent but on the wrong channel. It struck the right balance between 'informative' and 'entertainment' although they did occasionally get things wrong, such as the time they compared a mid range Rover 75 against a Mondeo ST220!!

Having now had the chance to watch a proper full lap of the Astra, the only word which springs to mind is 'dreary'.

Normally I don't pay that much attention to the interview part of SIARPC, but do watch the lap. If that's what it's now going to be like, I don't think I'll be properly watching the lap either.

I thought it was the most interesting part of an otherwise forgettable show.

What did May meean at the end that the BBC have started using it again? Not heard anything about that.

BBC Worldwide, Films (?) and Post Production still use it, as well as the fact the renovated studios will sometimes be rented by the BBC to use.

With the Ferrari at the end, I'm slightly confuseds as to why he talks about the car working in Letchworth when he's quite clearly driving through Pitlochry, and then talks about Hertfordshire when he's up in the Highlands (apparently on the A93).

Aha, I wondered! I mean, I haven't visited all of Hertfordshire but I could tell those shots were not filmed in it - apart from the few in Letchworth ;)

Anybody watching tonight?

I wonder how the Borismaster would compete against an Enviro 400?

I was hoping they would have the stig drive it round the track. I wouldnt mind having a go driving the new routemaster if it goes like the one in the film then I think it would be faster than the enviro 400

What a fantastic ending to the programme tonight. Proud to be British and, for once, not just go with the flow of moaning and whingeing!

Almost brought a tear to the eye. Almost felt like standing up and saluting.

Look beyond the badge and what you have is British engineering excellence, British workmanship and British pride in a job well done.

Unfortunately the following programme then told how the profit from nearly every car made in Britain goes to Germany and elsewhere.

How a company spends its profit is a decision for its shareholders. Wherever that company is based, and as long as it is traded on an open stock market, anyone can benefit from that profit.

What's that got to do with this country having no UK owned car companies except a few tiny niche ones.

I am not sure it was meant to have anything to do with it, but merely pointing out that anyone in the UK can buy shares in a German car manufacturer and benefit from the profits.

I think a lot of people just think all the cash goes to Germany and we're somehow losing out. That doesn't have to be the case, for exactly the same reason we have foreign companies investing in our businesses to share in our profits.

Anyone else watch the programme earlier tonight? I enjoyed the episode, both with the Shelsey Hill Climb, which is local to me and the large array of TGPD vehicles - I liked the flail on the digger (I presume it is some sort of minesweeper).
