Those nice people at TPE have copied ScotRail with a Club 55 and until 31 October they are offering me (and anybody else age 55 or over) return travel on the TPE network for between £5 and £20 depending on the number of Zones travelled through. First Class is 50% more than Standard. See http://www.tpexpress.co.uk/_Client/D...L_lft_aw_2.pdf if you're over 55.

My reason for posting here is that it is not at all obvious from the flyer at the link above, or the terms & conditions at http://www.tpexpress.co.uk/train-tickets-and-rail-offers/seniors.htm#terms , whether these Club 55 return tickets are valid for a day, or a month, or some other period.

Could anyone with access to FRPP please tell us the answer?

John

If we are assuming the TPE Club 55 scheme is identical to the one FSR offer, then the return validity is "One Calendar Month".

The TPE Club 55 is a return valid for return travel within one month.

ATW are also offering a club 55 ticket for £15. It can be extended onto Northern, Merseyrail (+£1) First Great Western, London Midland (+£5) and Cross country (+£10).

Passengers with a senior railcard may have £2 knocked off. The promotion runs until 12 December 09. It is valid for return travel within one month, restrictions may apply.

Just to clarify this point for readers, the add-on fare does not extend the ticket to the entire networks of the above TOCs, only for certain journeys:

First Great Western- Travel to Bristol, Bath, Castle Cary, Cheltenham, Kemble, Stroud, Taunton, Trowbridge, Warminster, Westbury, Western-Super-Mare, Worcester and Yate.

Cross Country- Travel to Birmingham via Cheltenham.

London Midland- Travel to Liverpool via Runcorn

Merseyrail- Travel to Bidston, Hunts Cross, Kirkby, New Brighton, Ormskirk, Southport and West Kirkby.

Northern Rail- Travel to Bolton, Bromley Cross, Burscough Bridge, Chassen Road, Chelford, Disley, Glossop, Greenfield, Knutsford, Manchester Airport, New Mills Central, Oldham, Patricroft, Poynton, Rochdale, Wigan, and Wilmslow.

If the spelling above is a little dodgy, don't blame me, the ATW site seems to be littered with errors.

I am pretty sure there are some time restrictions as well, but can't just remember. I have the official staff brief on the matter at home, so will have a look and post details when home.

The time restrictions are as follows (from the TPE website):
"Club 55 tickets are not available for travel before 09:00, or on trains departing between 16:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday. They are unrestricted at weekends and bank holidays."

It's not called advance, anytime, or off-peak - so it isn't 'simple' and I am therefore confused!
It says you can't buy online, but NXEC is allowing you to.

There's no yp or disabled railcard discounts either.

I don't think there's much need for YP discounts for most 55+ year olds!

It's all about promoting rail travel to seniors.

No, but there are some - it just seems a bit daft to exclude the 55-60 year olds who do have a railcard.
Like you say, there aren't going to be many of them!

My brief didn't cover the area of the ATW extensions, so thanks for the info.

In reality a 55-60 is unlikely to be a full time student (15 hrs or more) although I do see your point, particularly in regard to the Disabled Railcard.

Copied and pasted word for word from the Staff Brief:

Club 55

This promotion will run from the 06/09/2009 until the 31/10/2009.

These tickets are available to anyone aged 55 or over.

Outward travel must be between 06/09/2009 and 31/10/2009. The outward portion is valid on the date on the ticket with the return valid for travel within one calendar month subject to the ticket restrictions below.

The tickets are priced on a zonal system with the price of £5 per zone or £5 every time a zone boundary is crossed to make the required journey.
The restriction code for these tickets is TG, which does not allow travel from the departure station before 0900 or between 1600 and 1800, Monday-Friday, and these restrictions apply to both the outward and return legs. There are no restrictions at weekend. They are also only available on First TransPennine Express services.

No proof of age is required when purchasing the tickets but should be available when travelling. Senior railcard holders receive a further 20% discount on the club 55 tickets.

Tickets are available in both Standard and First class with ticket type 55S for Standard Class tickets and ticket type 55F for First Class tickets. They are not quota controlled.
Tickets must be purchased prior to boarding at any manned station. Customers may also purchase these tickets on board when boarding at an unmanned station, or if the station ticket office is closed. They may also be purchased from First TransPennine Express telesales.

They cannot be purchased on line.
Normal refunds and change to date of travel conditions apply.

Club 55 customers wishing to use services during the restricted times should be excessed to the appropriate full fare for that journey.

--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Also of interest may be this promotion:

Cleethorpes – Half Price

This offer is designed to welcome customers back to rail services, between Cleethorpes and Doncaster, who have been disrupted whilst the line has been upgraded.

It will allow customers to purchase all walk up tickets at half the normal price on the journeys listed below.

The offer will run from the 11/09/2009 until the 28/09/2009 for outward travel.

Tickets should be issued with the route code 000376-Cleethorpes Half.

All available tickets will be priced in the ticket issuing systems with the above route code. These will be half the price of the walk-up fares for the journey being made.

Normal Railcard, Child discounts will apply to these fares.

First TransPennine Express, Northern Rail and East Midlands Trains will accept these tickets on their services where applicable:

Journeys where these tickets will be priced are:

Between any of the following stations;
• Cleethorpes. • Grimsby • Habrough.
• Barnetby • Scunthorpe • Althorpe
• Crowle • Thorne South • Hatfield & Stainforth.

Also from/to any of the stations listed above to/from any of the stations listed below;
• Doncaster • Meadowhall • Sheffield
• Dore • Stockport • Manchester Piccadilly
• Manchester Airport.
But not between these stations.

Tickets will be available for purchase at Stations. They will also be available on-line and from telesales offices.

Tickets must be purchased prior to boarding at any manned station. Customers may also purchase these tickets from the Conductor on board when boarding at an unmanned station, or if the station ticket office is closed.

As these tickets are walk-up and not Advance purchase tickets they are not quota controlled.
Normal refunds, change to date of travel conditions apply.

Would you be able to do a Middlesbrough - Glasgow via Manchester on one ticket i.e. £25 or would you have to buy two separate tickets ?

Can i just say it's a First Group thing, as Club 55 is avlible on FGW aswell as TPE and FSR, but not yet on FCC...
Can't just be for FirstGroup though, as Arriva Trains Wales are also doing it (see post earlier in this thread).
