That’ll never last. They’ll end up having to draw forward to allow wheelchairs on and off.
That would be an issue towards Scarborough as the train'll foul the foot crossing.

For all of about 3 minutes. It really isn’t the end of the world and would cost the railway a lot less than a lawsuit from an impacted wheelchair passenger would. That would be an issue towards Scarborough as the train'll foul the foot crossing.
The gates to the foot crossing are locked when the Scarborough services approach so it wouldn't matter, (if you want a westbound train at Seamer turn up in good time). The gates are spring loaded to ensure they close so a wheelchair user will struggle to access the platform on their own, better to go to Scarborough. That would be an issue towards Scarborough as the train'll foul the foot crossing.
Vibratey? The ride on a Class 185 is superior to the rough riding Mk 5.cramped vibratey 185 … not a chance
I must say I have also been rocked about far more by a MK5. It’s very uncomfortable for me.Vibratey? The ride on a Class 185 is superior to the rough riding Mk 5.
According to the Class 68s on the TPE routes Facebook group,ok folks whats out on the last day? anyone know?
So it's looking like nothingSaturday 9th December 2023![]()
The final day of booked Class 68 & Mk5A Loco Hauled 'Nova 3' operation with TransPennine Express. Please note, due to operational restrictions, it is expected that all diagrams will run with Class 185 units.
Hard luck! I managed to get 68 027 for the first time on Thursday evening on the 19 48 Scarborough as far as Dewsbury.I was there to see that as well. I never got 68026 and 68027 unfortunately
Yep. i got 30 back home from york todayHard luck! I managed to get 68 027 for the first time on Thursday evening on the 19 48 Scarborough as far as Dewsbury.
Packed in the right word - sardines would be accurate!Yep. i got 30 back home from york today
thanks all
its just a crying shame they are going. The trains today were packed out too.
Wouldn't it be a shame if everyone complained that the trains are overcrowded now…Packed in the right word - sardines would be accurate!
A huge shame this much needed capacity has been binned off.Wouldn't it be a shame if everyone complained that the trains are overcrowded now…
re sardines .. yes.. i compared it to a 365/317 rush hour kx suburban full n standing to the wife.
quicknote. 68030 and set is stabled in plat 2 at scarborough currently
Yes, its all a bit surreal isn't it.A huge shame this much needed capacity has been binned off.
Unfortunately it is now too late to complain, the Class 68/Mk5A sets are gone for good from TPE.
Quite a few people did try to raise awareness with the ‘Metro Mayors’ at Transport for the North. West Yorkshire were very receptive and took a big interest in what was happening. The others ran up the white flag very quickly, Manchester in particular being a huge disappointment.
I think it was more a case of those who could think for themselves and were prepared to question the ‘alternative facts’ and those who could not.Yes, its all a bit surreal isn't it.
I suppose some of the Mayors might have been told - how much do you want to pay. I would have hoped more support from the East side of the Peninnes might have been useful as that was the easiest area crewing wise. Manchester are probably concentrating on HS2 and TPRU ignoring the stock to run on it !.
Bridges now burnt and a lot of effort by those keeping the Mk5s going gone to waste.
Careful, you will start a revolution. Our leaders value our ability to improvise and use our initiative BUT only if it fits their plan anyway.I think it was more a case of those who could think for themselves and were prepared to question the ‘alternative facts’ and those who could not.
Yes, quite so.Careful, you will start a revolution. Our leaders value our ability to improvise and use our initiative BUT only if it fits their plan anyway.
Most stock was 2x 185.Well I presume that everything was double 185 today, demonstrating that there is plenty of stock to go round without the Mark 5s.
And even an 802 on Scarboroughs as planned, which is of course more capacious than a Nova 3.Well I presume that everything was double 185 today, demonstrating that there is plenty of stock to go round without the Mark 5s.
I wasn't actively looking, but a train I could have caught this morning that was supposed to be 6 cars was formed of just 3. As I was there in good time, I opted for an 802 in front of it. Looking on TPE journey check just now, in addition to that diagram, another 185 turn is 3 vice 6.Well I presume that everything was double 185 today, demonstrating that there is plenty of stock to go round without the Mark 5s.
11.12.2023Most stock was 2x 185.
Not all services are booked to be a double set including the Hulls and Saltburns
There was some very unfortunate bunching of 3-car services today.I wasn't actively looking, but a train I could have caught this morning that was supposed to be 6 cars was formed of just 3. As I was there in good time, I opted for an 802 in front of it. Looking on TPE journey check just now, in addition to that diagram, another 185 turn is 3 vice 6.
Yesterday, plenty of trains were reported on TPE journey check as full and standing - and delaying some of those trains.
Thank you for that. It really illustrates very clearly what an utter shambles TPE continues to be.Some rough observations regards to 6 cars before the thread is closed!
State of play for the day in an easterly direction...
1Pxx Airport - Middlesbrough 15 trains ran, 9 were 6 cars
1Pxx Liverpool - Newcastle - 14 trains ran, all 800s
1Kxx Picc - Hull - 15 trains ran, 6 were 6 cars
1Bxx Liverpool - Cleethorpes - 15 trains ran 6 were 6 cars
In the December 2023 timetable Monday-Friday:Well I presume that everything was double 185 today, demonstrating that there is plenty of stock to go round without the Mark 5s.
