This may be in the wrong topic so feel free to move it...but...

With the May-Dec 09 timetables out, TransPennine Express services (between LIV and SCA) are the only trains which fail to stop in Liverpool South Parkway station (except Pendos, which won't fit on the platform)
LM have Birmingham trains serving it every half hour, EMT have trains to Nottingham and Norwich, there's local services to Warrington, Hunts Cross, Manchester and Southport, not to mention regular bus link to Liverpool JL Airport and a train to central Liverpool every 6 minutes on average.

Due to line speed limits, they have to slow to 20mph as they leave the WCML (directly after the station) it just seems a little pointless that this fantastic facility is there and not being used.

Thoughts?

Demand. It's not there for EMT or TPE.

EMT are paid by Merseytravel to stop there. After the peak, maybe 4/5passengers max board it to Manchester. Maybe 1 person might go beyond, maybe.

Northern's local services only have a handful of people using it too.

During the peak, yeah okay, but TPE stop at Hunts Cross, which for most people is easier.

Last year 420,000 people used the station. That is working out (very roughly) at 1100 people per day. The majority of those passengers are using Merseyrail services, somewhere around 80%.

In comparison, despite [stn]LPY[/stn] being open, Hunts Cross still has more passengers using it! 503,000 people, some 80,000 more than South Parkway.

This is a pet peeve of mine.

It really annoys me that long distance trains stop there adding yet more time onto Liverpool - Manchester services. If people used it then it would be fair enough, but they don't.

Good, otherwise it will make SCA-LIV journey times to high. There not that express at the moment!
