So after being knock backed by FTPE I want to broaden my horizons.

Lime street would be perfect but a move north is more important.

Northern haven't replied to anything I've asked so forgetting about them so what other companies that are in the north west with in 45 minute drive/commute of liverpool.

Lime street you've obviously northern, FTPE and arriva trains Wales. (I'm not qualified enough for virgin)

Merseyrail is to much of a pay cut and as a qualified driver trams doesn't interest me. Would need to be switching 45 mins of litherland

Chester & Crewe both have traincrew depots.

Or there are freight depots at Warrington, Peak Forest, Crewe & Carnforth if you fancy a switch to the dark side.

I wouldn't give up on Northern. Have you just tried applying and seeing what you get back?

Merseyrail aren't far behind Northern in terms of pay, and they have just secured a 3.7% pay rise with another to follow this year of similar size.
Or there's ATW in Chester to consider.

I've emailed (contact form/recruitment/personal email) called left voice messages and never a thing back from northern. Doesn't portray well to me considering they were very simple questions.

Maybe I will look into merseyrail. Ideally not the work I want but if I was gonna try northern I may as well

Zero chance with Merseyrail im afraid mate, as they expressely DO NOT take on qualified drivers.
You have to start as a guard first.
They have not yet wised up to the money they could save by recruiting ready qualified drivers...

Speaking of Merseyrail, I applied for a Guards position with them and went through the selection process in October. I passed all the assessments/interviews etc and have now been put in a holding pool, just wondering has anyone experienced this before with Merseyrail and what are the chances they will eventually take me on.

I hate to poke my nose in and mean this with the best intentions but you don't exactly sell yourself to employers on here! You have fully identified yourself-name, depot, toc, qualifying date and previous employment and management from TOCs do certainly read these forums.

I would think very very carefully about criticising TOCs and their HR on here when they know who you are. Now that you have criticised northern like that they are unlikely to give you a job are they? Plus Mersey rail may think twice as you have openly said it isn't the work you want to do so they now know that if someone matching the information you have revealed about yourself applies it is only a stepping stone onto other northern TOCs...

I'd just suggest great caution posting on here and in all seriousness, if you are looking for this kind of info then consider a second account with a subtle name such as 'A-Driver' etc... And obviously any southern managers on here now also know that you are looking to leave their employment.

Would love to agree but can't. Not saying anything bad or slanderous just fact if it's taken that way so be it.

Well up to you but your posts on here, considering that you are in no way anonymous or even making any effort whatsoever to hide your identity, really won't do you any favours if serious about moving companies.

Slanderous or not, you have come across on this thread as criticising northern for daring not to reply to you and offer you a job with them and you have cut your chances with Mersey rail by stating very clearly that you don't want to work for them.

Drivers and other rail staff have lost their jobs in the past for posts on forums like these, Facebook and twitter and companies take it very seriously. I just feel it very irresponsible for you to identify yourself so clearly and then go about posting some of the things you do. I would watch your back as southern will be watching you closely and what you say on here and you are rapidly reducing your chances of being employed by any other TOC if you go on like this.

None of my business I know and it don't mean to have a go but I wouldn't want to see anyone else loose their job over something as stupid as a forum post...

Sit tight is my only advice. The guard schools only take 10 candidates at a time and there has been a high turnover of guards for various circumstances. Id say give it until late March before getting concerned.

It's not a job offer i am after I asked some very basic questions regarding the job itself with no replies despite every avenue being pursued which in my opinion isn't good business ethic. If that will impede me in future then that's how it's meant to be. Fate and all that

Well you helped identify me I a single post and it's not through asking people at my depot as I've been told. However i am very aware of social media policies and as stated haven't said anything slanderous or that could jeopardise my position.

Hope you can see it from my side as well as your own now

Well I know we have also chatted about this in PM's and no hard feeling intended, I'm just advising caution not just to you but also to others on here who havnt hidden their identities. I of course see it from your side as well and you obviously make your own decisions and I'm not looking to interfere with that.

I know I identified you on a single post on here but that was to prove a point that if I can work out who you are without knowing you and just by piecing together your previous posts then employers who have managers employed to trawl through these sites putting real names to usernames won't have any problems at all!

As I say, no hard feelings-I'm not looking for an argument with you just looking out for fellow staff. Sadly our employers can be very quick to take action for things which we may not feel deserve it!
