Errrrrrrr hope this isn't too boring or been done recently but I was just thinking of the train/engine nicknames...some I know probably old hat.

Pretty correct there on the loco front, just a few others i know of:

24: Never heard em called skinheads, thought that was 31's without headcode blind or marker lights.

37: For those that don't like them nose-ped has been known.
46: Nose Duff

57: Ronnie, although the origins of that I do not know.

24s known as Skinheads is a pretty local term, 31s never ventuered over here

I think 57601 was called Ronnie, as in Purple Ronnie?

31s were also known as Toffee Apples

As Dave correctly said earlier, Ronnie did indeed originate from when 57601 wore Porterbrook Purple, hence the name "Purple Ronnie".
And 47s were "Brush 4s" before they were spoons or duffs.
