Hi guys,
I’m new to this forum.
There’s a trainee train driver vacancy. I work in a completely different field but always wanted to be a train driver. Can anyone advise what are the chances of being selected please?

It doesn’t matter what field you work in now, all that matters is you demonstrate the skills required and you’ll get a chance. I’ve been a postie all my working life, have only applied for one trainee role, got a DMI, passed that and have my assessments/MMI tomorrow.

Whether I pass or fail, I’ve been treated completely fairly.

Congratulations and Good luck tomorrow.

Which company did you apply?
First time that I see someone mentioning DMI before any assessment.
I heard that some does is in between, after the paper assessments and before the computer/MMI.

There is a wealth of information on these forums and also there is the Group Bordon software stick'd at the top of the Careers forum.

If you reach stage 1 or 2 assessments you will be sent over a practice material pack. While the tests may differ slightly they can prepare you for whats to come. You will receive an email from the TOC which outlines which tests you will be doing for that day. From there you can always come here and type it into the search bar. There is so much on here including a lot of my own posts explaining the process.

As someone who has passed all the tests twice to enhanced I would advise to concentrate on each stage wholeheartedly rather than looking too far ahead. It is a very lengthy process that is quite draining. Some tests you can practice for others you cannot. (I am now a Trainee Driver)

If you have any specific questions feel free to ask : )

What are the chances? Almost non existent. Simply going by the number of applicants Vs the number of jobs available, the chances of getting the job are miniscule.

BUT

Those same chances apply to everyone. The only people who are guaranteed to not get the job are the ones who don't apply. So go for it, do your best, and if as is almost inevitable you don't succeed - try again. There are plenty of success stories on this site, and we all had to fight against the same bad odds.

Agreed. You really have to keep trying if your not successful. Persistance and preparation serve well when applying and trying to be a driver. That's just to be offered a course. You still have huge pressure to pass each stage before getting that coveted key!

I got knocked back many times and even my opc results ran out of time so had to resit them. It's just a matter of how much you want it. Good luck and hope you get a position!

The tests are not that different @Tezza32. They are there to give you an idea of what to expect.

Sorry to hear you used a life, I hope the next time brings you a better result!

Again there is a wealth of information on these forums if you would like to know exactly what you will get for each test. The first time I done them I only used the practice materials sent to me and it was enough.

Which test did you fail on?
