It was via email this morning from Rebecca. You should call her, I rang her this morning and Within one hour I had confirmed start date.

Choochoodriver, How long after your medical did you get results/confirmation that you have passed them? They informed me it will be about 4-5 days before results comeback then they will let me know. Had my medical early last week and was wondering how long to leave it before contacting them.

I passed the medical pending drugs results, and like you have not heard anything since. That was 7 weeks ago. Im not worried as I know I would of passed with no problems, just that it seems that most people got confirmation about a week later. Also the day I had my medical with Virgin in the morning, I had my 3 year renewal with my current TOC in the afternoon and passed with no problems.

Are we given uniform to wear during training?

Or is it suit shirt tie etc?

Cheers

I was wondering the same.

Thanks for the rotas whoosh. Pretty much looks like 4 days on 4 days off, sometimes with 6 days on 3 days off. Is the annual leave scheduled into that as well or do you get longer periods off?

Do you stay in the hotels attached to the trains stations for the turns? Some pretty posh hotels near/attached to York station!

I'd imagine it would be shirt & tie etc equivalent for the females until your uniform arrives. Normally you would have uniform measurements taken at some point during your first week, and depending on how good their uniform supplier is, you could have your uniform by the second or third week.

Prepare yourself for lots of 0300 alarm calls, night shifts and some element of getting cold, wet and filthy, should the occasion demand.

Can anyone let me know how long the medical lasts or lasted for you? And the different elements that are involved in it?

Cheers

I'll give it another go. I was disappointed with the quality myself, but thought I'd post it to give a rough idea.

Just to be clear, I don't work for them, but at the moment the only 'lodge' turns on VTEC for Drivers, are Newcastle's 'top link' which contains turns that lodge in Aberdeen and Inverness. I don't know how posh they are.

Otherwise you start and finish at the same location.

Most TOCs will have a uniform for you in the first two or three weeks.

That's better. There is a 'key' in the bottom left corner that marks white jobs as trips to Leeds, blue jobs as trips to Newark, yellow as trips to York/Newcastle and states that RR is 'Route Refresh'.

Others are SUD - Safety Update Day or 'Safety Brief'
SP - Spare, you will be allocated a turn of duty that starts +/- so many hours from the Spare start time. Other TOCs have 2 or 3 hours movement when spare, but I think it can be a lot more at VTEC as their conditions are more flexible.

There's actually quite a lot of nights at Kings Cross as there a quite a few sets to take to fuel (HSTs and I suppose Azumas in the future) at Ferme Park, through the carriage washer between Hornsey and Alexandra Palace, into Bowes Park reversing siding and then into Bounds Green Depot, then out and into Kings Cross. There's a toilet tank emptying for Mk 4s somewhere amongst that as well.

As an aside, Eurostar has a similar level of night work for the same reason ferrying trains to the depot at Stratford.

Well today was a good day, I'm confirmed for starting my trainee course on the 3rd of May.

Just waiting for my contract to arrive! Absolutely over the moon.

Many thanks to those who provided information throughout this thread and the best of luck to those still in the running.

Thanks all.

Once I get my contract I'll post all the juicy details. Davidson4301, I actually had my medical over 2 weeks ago but only heard yesterday that I'd passed it with an email a few hours later with a start date. So bit different to most who heard within 2 days or so.

Did you get the option of a start date ? I have my medical on Tuesday but I emailed previously to see if I could start later in the year (after August 12th) due to holiday commitments. She said it should be ok.

I was just given a start date, however it did say on the email there will be no opportunity for leave in the first few months so if it clashes to email and she will change my start date.

Luckily there's no clashes for me!

Am in the same boat mate she said that I can start after August as there are courses at the back end of the year. I have my medical on Wednesday so we might end up on the same course.

I was given the May start date and can't do it due to holidays. Was then given October as next available course so all should b ok!

Yeah that would be good. Are you Newcastle ? Are the courses mixed depots ?

No am Doncaster but I assumed that the courses would be a mixed batch of locations for the initial stages of training as it's in York but i might be wrong.

I have no idea really, there are extra positions available now so they would probably have enough to fill entire courses with one depot location. Either way it makes no odds really, as soon as rules ext are out of the way we should then be based at the depot location.

Yeah I'd imagine once rules and theoretical traction is done you can go back to depots that have simulators I guess.
