So what is the point of the drivers signing it if the guards dont?

So they can work the first ECS move in the morning .
Im guessing its one of them situations that doesn't fully make sense .Like MCV to HUD via Stalybridge . Vic and Lime street guards and drivers sign it . But not Huddersfield traincrew

As I say - the guards are meant to sign it but some have lapsed. It's used quite regularly as a diversionary route.

Likewise some drivers have lapsed as well, so you can get situations where the guard signs, but the driver doesn't.

The early morning Moreton-Worcester on the Cotswold Line now starts back at Oxford - previously it ran ECS.

Unfortunately the experiment with starting the morning Herefords back at Abergavenny wasn't sustained, and they again run ECS from St Philips Marsh through Newport and Abergavenny.

The stock for the 0916 (now 0919) Peterborough to King's Cross used to run empty from King's Cross after its inbound working but now runs in service at 0808.

I didn't realise Northern had traincrew based at Huddersfield! I thought Victoria, Leeds and Sheffield covered Northern's routes in and out of Huddersfield sufficiently :o

Unfortunately, Maps has stopped.
LM have a good 'un. Runs from Crewe CS to Rugby ECS every day to work back to Crewe - while the Guard follows the ECS in a taxi........

I believe the Guards book on for that at 0250, while the driver books on a fair bit later. It could run via BHM, to give a much earlier arrival in London. Although Crewe traincrew don't sign the Coventry corridor, I'm sure the train could be handed over to a New Street crew at BHM. That would give nice early connections into BHI for the airport, too.

True that. Rugby SCC wanted to send me via the Willesden Relief a few months ago - I sign it but the driver didn't!!

They have a very small traincrew depot there . They only sign sheffield , and leeds via dewsbury and leeds via bradford and halifax . That and the drivers sign the sidings there .

EMT guards from Nottingham and Derby do sign via Chat Moss, Romiley, Beighton, Ambergate and Toton as mentioned, for the purpose of diversionary needs. And yes there is a guard on that ecs service! Sleep time ;)

Back on subject of ecs movements that would be of benefit. The first emt service to London and the last out of London actually only run from/to Leicester despite the fact it runs from/to Derby and has crew on it (even a host on the morning one). It runs from/to Derby station also and not direct or of Etches Park like some do. Always seemed strange to me as I'm sure some people would take the opportunity to arrive into London early and the last one out would be a direct 00:15 to Derby. The latest you can currently get is 23:15 via Nottingham.

Wish the last train up to Merthyr would stop as far as Pontypridd on the way back down to Canton. Same for Aberdare and the penultimate one to Treherbert. ..appreciate they need two sets stabled which can be easily rectified.
I remember when the last train up from Cardiff was about midnight then went to 2125 for years...now 2226...meaning last one down the valley fron Merthyr was 2138...now 2238. Even with a 2238 last train the bus service is still hoovering up passengers down to Edwardsville and on to Bedlinog. If you are travelling back ftom the Rhondda you have to leave by 2115 ish...rubbish for a night game at say Ton Pentre.

There's a current ECS from Moorgate to Hertford on a weekday which from Monday becomes a passenger service.

So more ECS moves on the GN become passenger trains not sure if TL route has same changes?

No they don't. In the current timetable there is an ECS move from Crewe to New St that goes via Bescot. There used to be an ECS from Crewe to Rugeley TV which then formed a passenger service to Rugby and then changed headcodes to form a passenger service to Euston but that now runs in passenger service from Crewe to Euston.

Haven't seen what happens after Sunday though

From Monday, I believe this train runs in Passenger service from Middlesbrough.

I've suggested to ATW that if that train stopped at Knutsford, Altrincham and Stockport there would be minimum time penalty and it would also allow a service to the Airport for people wanting to catch early flights (which depart at 6am) or to get to Stockport for an early London service. There is a considerable market for London travel from the Knutsford and Altrincham areas but a number of people railhead, which earlier and better rail connections would help solve.

ATW would then be liable for providing rail replacement buses on the occasions the service runs via Warrington so the limited extra revenue would probably not make it viable. It would be a couple of people a day at most using it. Altrincham to the airport is £6.20 SDS at that time of the morning. A taxi is only a few quid dearer and much quicker than going via Manchester. The train is booked to pass Stockport at 0430 so there would be a 43 min wait at Stockport for 1st London train again I dont think many people would want that at that time.
