Passenger Service over Unusal Line(s)
He means it's a passenger service over an unusual line.psul?
It is sure going to be unusual for the likes of Huddersfield and Dewsbury to have a direct service to Edinburgh!
As an employee of TPE based in Newcastle the service as far as we have been advised replaces some west coast services to maintain a service between the airport and Scotland. It will be Edinburgh conductors working the trains with freight liner drivers, and Newcastle staff will not be covering the work. Services via Berwick but non stop between Newcastle and Edinburgh.
As for stoppers north of Newcastle, there is no demand because there is no provision, and the sooner the rail industr realise this then we might just see such a service. Currently people in Berwick have to travel to Newcastle to pick up a service to Alnwick or Morpeth. Why would there be a demand if here is no service? currently the bus takes nigh on 2 hours between Newcastle and Berwick while the train takes 45 mins. Yet for intermediate locations the bus is quicker. I cannot see any reason why there cannot be a service from Newcastle to Edinburgh calling At Morpeth, almouth, Berwick, Dunbar, wallyford (or whichever station connects with north Berwick branch) and merged in with existing Glasgow, York or Middlesbrough services to significantly improve journey opportunities across the north east. This would be in addition to reactivating services through ashington, Blyth etc and reopening leamside adding stations at Washington, houghton, Durham Belmont, through to Middlesbrough.
Yeah I know ambitious, an no doubt some feasibility study will say no demand, poor value for money etc but wherever I have seen a service improvement it has come with an increase in demand. So logic suggests where the service provision is made and encouraged, demand will be created.
Are these still on for up to 18 May, and does anyone have the Saturday/Sunday times for subsequent weekends other than during Easter please?
The TPE website does not yet list any alterations to these services beyond the Easter weekend.
The Glasgow service will be a PSUL over the curve between Coatbridge Central and Kirkwood. (The Edinburgh via Carstairs and Cumbernauld isn't a PSUL at any point, but it's still an interesting service to do, considering.)
Theres a TPE at 2045 from Edinburgh to Glasgow Central on the 30th of March . Anyone know the routing?
Via Linlithgow, Cumbernauld and Mount Vernon:
