The latest ONS estimates have the South East with an estimated population of 9.18 Million and London with 8.96 Million.

With about 850,000 of the South East inside the M25 but not in the London Boroughs. about 9.7million within the London phone number area.

Much of that 850,000 population will come under the East of England rather than the South East.

I’m surprised it’s that much as there are some quite sizeable areas within London that don’t have an 020 dialling code but only six exchanges not in London that do.
