Geordie back from exile.
From the Megabus website

How does megatrain work with the automatic barriers at stations?
Barrier staff will have a copy of the megatrain passenger loading sheet and passenger reference numbers will be checked. As this process will obviously take a little longer than checking a ticket we specify that megatrain passengers should be at the station 10 minutes prior to departure.

What do I give the Guard on the train?
You will require your booking reference to travel, ensure you obtain this reference for each journey you book.

Take your booking reference with you and present it to the Guard and any other railway staff who ask to see it. It entitles you to make the journey specified at time of booking. For details of our conditions please see the small print.

My reservation states the main terminus; can I board elsewhere?
Please note that the departure and arrival times displayed are for the main terminus points you selected. You must board and alight at these points, and it is a condition of travel on megatrain that you may not board or alight at other points on the route. If travelling on services operated by East Midlands Trains, you will be charged the full single fare for the actual journey made. On services operated by South West trains Penalty fares will apply if passengers alight or board at any other points along the route, other than the stations listed on the tickets.

Why can't I get on or off the train at intermediate stations?
megatrain is a simple low-cost inter-city fare like the successful megabus which has been run by Stagecoach for over two years. It is not expected to be highly profitable and must attract a good number of new customers to justify itself. In order to do that, it needs to be kept simple for passengers booking and simple for our staff to implement and monitor. Therefore, megatrain is only being offered on lightly loaded trains and between certain origins and destinations only. Should the extension of the initial megatrain routes prove popular with our passengers, we may extend to offer to more places.

What happens if there are engineering works on the megatrain.com network?
There are often engineering works during weekends and public holidays which require alterations to train times and services. Where times are changed megatrain.com will advise passengers in advance of travel. Megatrain.com may replace scheduled train services with rail replacement bus services, where this occurs your megatrain.com reservation will be honoured on the rail replacement service.

Megatrain is Bristol - Waterloo via Bath Spa, Salisbury & Basingstoke on SWT. No services on this route on Sundays

I have a question that has been bothering me for a while.

Quite often I have seen signs on the platform saying Megatrain ticket holders must use carriage whatever it is.

Presumably the Megatrain holders must sit in that carriage and no other - but does it also work the other way round in that ordinary ticket holders must not use that carriage?

No, you can sit in the section, however from what I remember some seats have seat reservation labels.

Usually, you have to sit in the permitted Megatrain coach, which is open to all.

Do note, there are only 3 services per day, Monday-Saturday, for Megatrain users going from Waterloo - Bristol Temple Meads , and only 2 services per day for users going from Bristol Temple Meads - Waterloo.
