Seems the Ilkeston flyer will undergo a frequency increase, the new vehicle rear adverts advertise ‘every 10 mins’ with the current frequency being every 15.
Seems strange this hasn’t been advertised though, could it be a mistake ?

Would this increase the PVR? (peak vehicle requirement).
I'm assuming not since it'd be silly to order 6 vehicles for the route and need more

If everything else (like running time and layover) remains roughly the same an every 10 minute frequency would need 9 buses.

A couple of Red Arrow coaches that have not been in service for a few weeks, are 88 and 85, seen together at the front of Meadow Road. From the position of 85, and cones behind it, I wondered if the move had been made to extract something from the depot; maybe Notts and Derby Scania East Lancs (can't remember if it is 47). Maybe they will cut the route back from Cotmanhay, or paint some of the spare buses into Ilkeston Flyer livery, or even refurbish the Volvos to the same standard as the Enviro 200MMCs.

I could see that happening if it was an increase frequency. I know passengers wont like it but there's the two which goes the same way so its a waste of fuel as well as can help with regaining time and could mean the Enviros wont have to put up with bath street as much. Either that or it has it so it goes Cotmanhay every so often (like an hour) with the main trips terminating at Ilkeston similar to what H1 does with Heanor onto Alfreton.

Which part of Bath Street is the problem? I can't work it out on google maps
I think its the curb or tight turn which longer vehicles struggle with (bath street onto chapel street), stick a solo or a sr down there and it would be more fine

No as it isn’t mine to share, I was shown by a friend.
I’ll attach a photo below, vehicles without ferry lift will bottom out, these new ADLs are all fitted with ferrylift anyway so all should be good.

I noticed a piece on BBC East Midlands news about the £2 bus fare and Trentbarton. Almost sounded like they wanted an alternative strategy

Yes, it was the East Midlands Today programme broadcast at 6:30. It should be available on BBC iPlayer, although I'm not sure how long BBC News broadcasts are listed - might be until tomorrow evening?
If I recall, it was a piece about TrentBarton and how they have seen passenger numbers up to pre-pandemic levels but not from people switching from cars.
What they would like to see is more bus priority methods.

I hope Nottingham City Council were watching as congestion has increased through the Meadows since being used as a shortcut for the southern relief route. Bus lanes need to made wider / reinstated and priority given to buses at a number of key junctions (which is the opposite of what's happened in the last year or so where buses now end up waiting longer for traffic lights to change)

I was told that it would be every 10 mins Derby to Ilkeston, every 20 to Cotmanhay, and the same changes being made to The Two, but I can't see any registered changes yet.

Yes, but IF passenger numbers are up to pre Pandemic levels, I bet the profit isn't. One guy on TV said that when the £2 fare ends , he will go back to driving. When they talk about bus priority measures , I can't see that being many bus lanes installed. Certainly not if it involves cutting trees down, doing away with cycle lanes etc, and of course can't take pedestrian space. But in Derby, I've noticed many sets of traffic lights appear to be on red for traffic longer. In terms of people switching for cars. Well, most probably they no longer shop where the buses go, or live on estates that have no buses to take them to work etc.
Maybe less people want to go to Cotmanhay, or by so running, it makes the buses run late on every trip.

I've been told the flyers are going the opposite way around Cotmanhay too so there's a proper 2 way circular service
Hopefully it'll improve timekeeping on both routes. In my opinion, Cotmanhay has never justified the amount of buses it gets, it should have been cut back when Yourbus went under (and competition disappeared), and especially post-pandemic

That all said, it is an ideal place for buses to go back to Langley Mill depot unseen, when they have a fault.

IF the Ilkeston Flyer runs every 10, and they only use 6 buses, then it must only be operating between Derby and Ilkeston (1 hour round trip). This would make sense as "the Two" route serves cotmanhay frequently, and it is an easy connection between buses in Ilkeston.
The frequency improvement may partly be covered by bsip money,to provide a more frequent service through Spondon. That is pure speculation though - although there is funding being used to enhance services in Spondon - it's just unclear what form this takes at this stage. I expect all will become clearer over the coming weeks.

It's always struck me that Spondon Flyer branding remains in Spondon at the 'abandoned' bus stops, making me think perhaps there is a hope/ plan for it to return at some stage.
