I for one am always wearing one, so if you have seen a tall chap in either a station in London or at Crewe it's a good chance its me.

Does anyone else wear one on this forum? I'm looking for a proper trilby with a wooden brim, purple velvet lining and felt exterior with a checked ribbon on the outside, I'm just wondering what reliable dealers on the internet sell one.

I've noticed not many in the train enthusiast community dress well, Its mostly awful baggy tracksuits and a cheap hoody and a beanie hat. Why do they dress so crap?

I in no way follow fashion I just like to look nice.

Well, in wet weather I wear my (in)famous flappy hat because it's the only one I can find that doesn't either make my remaining hearing aid whistle or knock my implant magnet off on the other ear. It's very warm and comfortable as well!

I tried one on once, and looked in a mirror to find Mickey Pierce from Only Fools and Horses staring back. No, my level of silly hats stops with a Yorkshire County Cricket Club sun hat when on holiday, or occasionally a flat cap when on a walk in the country.

I wear a stetson but it does get a little in the way when photographing.

Panama when dry, Thinsulate thermal thing when wet.

I did have an Australian style hat, but left this on 378154 in September 2010.

I've been to a few fancy dress parties dressed as Arthur Daley. But I'm worried about the theory that wearing hats all the time makes your hair fall out, otherwise I'd wear mine more often.

I tend to wear a trapper during the winter months - it's not pretty but is warm when you have no hair!

I do have a trilby which I tend to wear when flying (don't ask ;) but it does amuse passport officers when I doff it)

Why would wearing a hat make your hair fall out? :?

Years ago everyone used to wear a hat. Did their hair fall out?

I hardly ever wear a hat, and when I do it's a baseball cap.

In the winter I always wore a trapper hat that was given to me by an Army Air Corps Observer, who used it in the Falklands Isles flying.
Another good piece of Kit was a German Army Parkas, with a zip in liner.
When EWS came on the scene, we were given red baseball hats withe the logo on the front, and a bag for your traps with the big logo.
In the early 1990's were were issued with the Corporate Collection, which had a bus driver type hat. This hat blew off over Ashton Moss on the Humber Oil to Ellesmere Port Gas Tanks. Never did like that hat any road.
Later on we we had to wear a bump cap when hooking on and off, or if we went under the sole bar to hook on and off.

Don't know. It's just a theory.

No idea, I've met a lot of people, but not everyone.

I take no notice of "theories" that go around with little or no evidence. A quick Google search confirms what I already suspected: it's (mainly) nonsense. I think we can file this in the same place as the "cutting hair makes it grow back thicker" rumour, ie the circular file.

You can continue wearing your hats with impunity. :)

The only hat I wear is a 'corporate' woolly hat when it's really cold at work. That in itself is very unusual. I do have the option of a traditional peaked cap but dismissed it off hand

I have about 5 hats that I regularly wear. Firstly, in the summer months when I visit warmer climes, I have a straw Panama hat. It's beginning to look a bit old and battered, however, but that's only to be expected, given that it's four years old and has been around a fair bit of Europe- Budapest, Vienna, Prague, Ljubljana, Dubrovnik, Zagreb, Lisbon, Zermatt, etc.

When I started at the railway, I bought myself a flat cap and I like it, so I now have a clean one that I wear when out and about (it was actually a birthday present a couple of years ago).

Other than that, I have a few beanie hats for when it's really cold and I occasionally have to wear hard hats for craning operations, etc.

If I'm ever promoted to footplate inspector, that's the time to buy a trilby and a trenchcoat ;)

I used to wear a pork pie hat. But I couldn't stand the gravy running down my neck.

Joking aside, it's rumoured that in Lancashire, people used to eat their pie, peas and chips from hats.

The only things I wear is my School uniform, polo shirt and tracksuit bottoms or my full grey tracksuit. I have a football manager style jacket with wrexham rugby club on it (I only got it because it was on sale at JJB) If you see a tallish guy with dark complexion it's me! As for hats it's either a beanie or a black Ney York Yankees ca
