[Triva] What is the longest rail journey between two stations that use to be directly connected but now aren't?

Hertford East to Hertford North
Hertford railway history is complicated, neither of the current stations are on their original sites.

Was there ever scheduled passenger train service between Hertford North and East? Don't think so.
You are right that there was no passenger service between the ex GER network and the ex GN network at Hertford. The connecting line was for freight only and did not go through the current Hertford East station, which is a terminus.

Off topic thought, if some of the lines in the area had hung on a bit longer would they now be part of Metrolink? The areas they pass through are quite well populated.
Only if the lines you are thinking about are entirely in Greater Manchester. GM has never shown any interest in extension beyond the county boundary.
