Hertford railway history is complicated, neither of the current stations are on their original sites.Hertford East to Hertford North
You are right that there was no passenger service between the ex GER network and the ex GN network at Hertford. The connecting line was for freight only and did not go through the current Hertford East station, which is a terminus. Was there ever scheduled passenger train service between Hertford North and East? So, maybe 47 miles now. What was it once? 14 miles or thereabouts?Appleby to Penrith is one in terms of multiples.
Ok thanks, i thought Penrith and Appleby were a bit closer. So, maybe 47 miles now. What was it once? 14 miles or thereabouts? Buxton to Matlock has to be a higher multiple?!
Only if the lines you are thinking about are entirely in Greater Manchester. GM has never shown any interest in extension beyond the county boundary.Off topic thought, if some of the lines in the area had hung on a bit longer would they now be part of Metrolink? The areas they pass through are quite well populated.
